Finally! Israel bowing down to International pressure. How much more evidence do they need? And..will they have an outside source do the actual investigation, one that is unbiased? That would be crucial to the veracity of the inquest.

JERUSALEM — The Israeli military has ordered 14 criminal probes into the conduct of soldiers during the war on the Gaza Strip at the turn of the year, the Jerusalem Post reported on Thursday.

It said the military is currently reviewing close to 100 complaints from a number of sources, including from soldiers who took part in the devastating 22-day operation on Gaza, as well as Palestinians and human rights groups.

The military did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the report.

Some 1,400 Palestinians and 13 Israelis were killed during the December-January war that left swathes of the aid-dependent, Hamas-run territory in ruins.

Among the Palestinians killed, 926 were civilians, 313 of them children, according to Palestinian figures which Israel disputes.

In a report earlier this month, Amnesty International accused both Israeli forces and Hamas militants of war crimes.

Also this month, an Israeli human rights group said Israeli soldiers were told to shoot first and worry about the consequences later, and used Palestinian civilians as human shields.

Instructions received before battle led to trigger-happy soldiers, civilian deaths and massive destruction in the densely populated Palestinian enclave, the Breaking the Silence group said in a report based on testimony from 30 soldiers.

In April, the military said its investigations showed the army "operated in accordance with international law," maintaining "a high professional and moral level" while facing an enemy who deliberately fought from within civilian areas.

    • 14 criminal probes sounds like isreal recognizes the difference between appropriate behavior and inappropriate behavior. how many probes has hamas or fatah done on thier end? wheres the work on the other side towards doing whats right? thier will never be a palastinian probe because hamas and fatah promote the killing of civilians (jews and thier own aka martyrs) as where israel does not. and still you guys see the big threat facing the world is the jewish state not the dozen arab state that sponser terror

    • I don't think anything is going to happen to israel, they are going to get away with the crimes that won't be told what was done.What crimes were made I would love to know how sick of a state they are.

      Remember when the American soldiers took pictures of the Iraqie men naked piled up on each other naked.well those soldiers were kicked out of the Army.I wonder if we will ever know what happedend with these Israelie soldiers. Probably a big parade.Nothing will be done again.

      Yes I clearly remember when the American soldiers took the pics and as an American I was truely appauled.
      and your probably right we will never truely know what will happen to the Israeli soldiers because Israel does nothing but Lie

    • I'm so happy to know that Israel will pay for the crimes they have commited. its been a long time coming.But what gets me is how Israel can say they commited no crimes , when we all seen it with our own two eyes.

      Israeli military investigating Gaza offensive complaints

      July 30, 2009

      JERUSALEM (JTA) -- The Israeli military is reviewing about 100 complaints accusing soldiers of criminal acts during its military offensive in Gaza.

      Military police have so far been ordered to investigate 14 of the cases, the Jerusalem Post reported Thursday, citing unnamed senior military sources. The military refused to comment.

      The allegations came from fellow soldiers, Palestinians and nongovernment organizations, the Post reported.

      The cases are reviewed by the relevant Israel Defense Forces unit and then presented to the Judge Advocate General, who decides whether to open an official criminal investigation.

      Several solders have already been indicted in probes related to Operation Cast Lead.
