Report: McCain received $881,450 from big oil since he announced support for offshore drilling

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) has made his complete reversal on offshore drilling a centerpiece of his presidential campaign, insisting that expanding offshore drilling into protected areas would lead to more oil supply on the market “within a matter of months” — regardless of the Energy Information Agency’s projection that oil would not reach the market for nearly a decade and “would not have a significant impact” on oil prices.

    • John McCain said offshore drilling would add to the oil supply in months? I know he is no idiot, so that statement, if he said it, would make him a LAIR!! The article above and experts who appeared on CNN clearly stated it would take at least ten years to make a slight difference in fuel prices.

Do we really want another lying president in office?

    • The conservative lemmings are coming out from under their rocks-

Has one republican politician or one major oil exec gone on record to say, that by adding millions more acres to drill in will guaranty that the price of gasoline will go down in the U.S?

Are Conservatives telling us that "big oil" will spend large sums of money as to drill only to lower our gasoline at the pump?

Well I guess most conservatives bought the Iraq war now they are buying this crap too?

    • Another sad day for those who still hold out hope that American politics will improve anytime soon...
McCain is especially shameless these days...

    • A vote for McCain is a vote for Exxon Mobil. He will end up just being their puppet in the white house. Whats next? Drilling riggs on the white house lawn.

    • Americans will see the benefits of this drilling 10 years from now and will result in a 2 cent decrease in gas prices at the pump.

So McCain is using half truths and convincing people that it is Obamas fault the gas is so high. I can't even believe that McCain is calling his bus the straight talk express.

    • PAC's will be PAC's.

Truthfully I rather see political candidates fund their entire campaigns through such organizations.

    • from what i've learned, isn't it a lack of refinery's in the united states that is hurting us, not necessarily a lack of oil. do we really need more oil? or am i completely off base?

    • "Big oil" donating to McCain does not necessarily imply that he is allowing their corporate desires to influence his stance on the issue.

At any rate, I really hope we do not give into this idea that offshore drilling will magically cure our at-the-pump-woes.

    • Im not shocked at anything with this Republican bunch. I am shocked that they put a real hero away for a long time. Im talking about Duke Cunningham and here is McCain getting away with what amounts to a bribe and he is free as a bird. Well even sharks select a victim to devour. Why should humans be different. And since democrats are just as corrupt why should they do anything to excercise justice. Oh what I wouldnt give to see what that old fire and brimstone hypocrite Sam Erwin from Watergate days would do and say.

    • I want a candidate who will tell the oil companies to go to hell and who will really stand up for the people when it comes to telling big coal to stick "clean coal" where the sun don't shine because it is a sham... in other words, I want honesty. Unfortunately, politics will not allow it so in that case I will not trust politics to lead on this, but people. As far as I am concerned, neither McCain or Obama are proving much regarding the environment... only that they play to the polls.

Really, Jan? It seems to me that Obama is moving us past a roadblock in the energy revamping of the country. Democracy is a series of compromises, and without them there is deadlock. Yes, offshore drilling is not a good thing -- but offering a bit of it, in return for so many steps forward on the road to energy independence, seems to me to be a creative way to move past the deadlock and onto the road to energy independence. So I'm thankful that Obama is willing to 'think out of the box' in order to move us forward.

VOTE OBAMA 08. It DOES matter.

Hey, don't lose sight of the real goal. Drilling has nothing to do with anything. It's affect on the net problem is about 1% either way. There is a massive difference between the two candidates positions.

Please take some time to THINK people. I can't stand it when people act like it doesn't matter who gets voted in. Not only does it matter, it affects you PERSONALLY, throughout your future daily life.

Dont be ignorant of the details.

    • Wow, so how much will Obama now get since he is changing his tune on this as well? Sad to see that on the environment, there is really no good choice.
