The over prescription and lack of one-on-one psychiatry in lew of these drugs is an even greater irresponsability perpetrated by liscensed professionals. Not to mention the content of this article is more along the lines of how this law will essentially force pregnant women to take said drugs while they are pregnant or risk losing their child(ren) if they refuse. Should we intoxicate unborn children with these drugs??

This is so sad that the individual who made this video is so misinformed and passing along this misinformation to people who might be in need of help. My brother-in-law hung himself while his wife, a nurse, insisted he not try anti-depressants because he might become addicted. You would think that a nurse would know that there is a wide range of psych meds and most of them are not addictive. That many people who are having mental health issues do use these drugs and still hurt themselves or others but not because of the drugs but despite the drugs, because of misdiagnosis or not using the drugs as prescribed. I do agree that there needs to be more education and regulation of these drugs. But to these attack videos who try and portray something as complex as treatment of mental illness as a black and white issue to be decided by untrained, misinformed people is very irresponsible.

Wow, I'm a little torn here. On the one hand, sure, big pharma doesn't need to be mandated, but immunizations are, because they're important.
That video seriously sucks as an authoritative source though.
It puts up Andrea Yates, who btw wasn't diagnosed before destroying her family. It didn't show Susan Smith, and it doesn't even pull up a news clipping from any paper on any given day showing the number of mothers who kill their children for no apparent reason and cite depression.
I have two children, and I have no idea what I would have done without the support my doctors gave me while trying therapy, medication, and special exercises to relieve my stresses. There are so many women out there who don't get that attention, either because they don't have a doctor that has the time or the patience to really see their pain, or they can't afford the followups to get the attention they need. Perhaps legislation will make it so that ALL mothers get the help they need, and believe me, all mothers can use the help. There's nothing wrong with requiring doctors to ask if new mothers are doing okay emotionally, since they really need to be doing that anyway. The law doesn't seem to be forcing the pills, but the vid here doesn't really say much about the law so... yeah... /rant - 3 years ago

This post was put up in an effort for people to look up the law..... 4000 charachter limit wont allow the legilation in....... The Mothers act will force pregnant women to take medications for depression. I believe there is enough information out there concerning PPD that we don't need a law for such a purpose.

Umm... Kurt Cobain shot himself in the head, he didn't OD on psychiatric drugs, all though he did take them. And personally, though i do know that they do have horrible side effects in some cases, they are not in all of them. They do help people. Yes, they don't work for everyone. But doesn't it count that although lives have helped to save more?

There is an abundance of evidence that anti-depressants cause many people to slip further into depression. It is not an OD aspect with adults.
