Shake hands with the Dalai Lama: the Olympic handshake going around the world, message of peace

WorldPeaceTV
The Beijing Olympics should be a moment to bring citizens around the world together. But the Chinese government still hasn't opened meaningful dialogue on Tibet, or made progress on Burma and Darfur -- and global activists' messages are too often lost in a firestorm of accusations about being anti-Chinese.

We've decided to take the moment back with a powerful, unambiguous message of peace, friendship and dialogue -- the Olympic Handshake. The handshake began with the Dalai Lama, passing through the streets of London, now it's gone online where all of us can join in -- help the handshake travel toward Beijing, where our message will be delivered through a big Olympic media campaign before the closing ceremonies. Join the handshake, and see yourself and others as it goes around the globe!

"With this handshake, we reach out to one another as citizens round the world in the Olympic spirit of friendship and excellence, committing to hold all our governments to a higher standard of peace, justice and respect for human dignity wherever they fall short – be it in Tibet, Iraq, Burma or beyond. Dialogue is the best way forward,
for China, and the world."

Check out the video and click the link to shake hands thru the Internet. And please, pass this on to your current tv list and your regular email.

The more we pass peace around the more peace we will have.

    • This reminds me of the Free Hugs campaign. A couple of friends of mine and I did one in Geneva about a year and a half ago, it was great!

    • The Dalai Lama is a great Human Being...with his peaceful smile, he is an example of how we all should to each other...
Unfortunately, the Tibetan people have suffered greatly, but still, they offer that same warmth and gentleness that the Dalai Lama embodies...as people of the world, we should embrace, protect, and help the Tibetan people so they and their ways prosper and grow...

    • Every peace minded organization should take a page out of their book, shaking hands and saying hi is a much better way to spread your message then being angry and holding up a sign

    • Peace is worth just about anything... and I'll gladly add my digital handshake...

Though the rational part of my brain forces me to wonder: How much do gestures like this really matter to a regime that will blow a monk's brains out on a sidewalk in front of impressionable children, simply for carrying a photo of His Holiness?

And this "anti-Chinese" thing is really getting to me. Can't people make the distinction in their brains like the rest of us do? One can dislike a government without being racist... Hell - I hate OUR government... doesn't mean I hate my fellow Americans!

Ride on! That is so true...why people even THINK that what the government does is what THEY do...most have no control, despite democracy..its the big corps/politicians lust for money that runs the world..a very few people

    • It's just beautiful that there are people on the planet that are willing to spread a message without the use of violence. I think that although it is undoubtedly more difficult to accomplish goals peacefully, it will always be worth it in the end. This is the only way to make change without leaving scars.

    • btw, I virtually shook hands with Robert Glasner of Woodland Hills, United States of America, part of a chain of 38060 people in 192 countries who have joined the global handshake. Please take a moment to pass the handshake on and help the handshake reach Beijing before the closing ceremonies -- invite your friends and family to join in using the form below the map you get, or just forward the email you received!
      thanks everyone!
