I watched this last night. Great TV.
The short term memory of the typical voter is evidently limited to the last item shown on Fox...
Remember the LAST thing FOX says is what they really mean.. forget EVERYTHING ELSE.
Even if what they say today is EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE of what they said before...

So I guess the way to make Fox News stop discriminating against women, it to get more Republican women to run for vice president or president. Maybe Fox News would stop discriminating against minorities if minorities ran for president or vice president as a Republican.

J_Jammer,
I beg to differ. This is the funniest clip I've seen in months. That is mostly because it points out a genuinely endemic lack of fairness on the part of most of the major news outlets. If you cannot agree with that, at the very least we can all see an unwillingness for them to research the past conclusions people might have mistakenly drawn from their coverage of certain "operatives".
First of all, when did Jon Stewart say he was fair without the usual sarcastic tilted eyebrow?
The FAUX "News" Channel actually won a court case over the slogan of "fair and balanced" even though they are patently unfair and never balanced. (The court actually upheld their right to OWN a slogan that really was a LIE about the way they cover news.)
What about Jon Stewart's exposing the flips flops on IDENTICAL issues raised by pundits do you see as "unfair"?
Seriously, please tell me why THESE clips are unfair - especially when exposing the deception shown in Rove's very own diametrically-opposed critiques of one of the Veep candidates under consideration by Obama and the one actually CHOSEN by McCain.
To prevent the risk of your dragging this thread into some other genre, please confine your remarks to this particular program since that is what this pod is about and it is also the one that drew your "Jon isn't" (fair) response. (Please don't drag out the "But Clinton lied too" response even if you substitute Obama's name.)
We can discuss the philosophical reasoning in another thread.
Thanks,

The funny thing is the conservatives still are attempting to insert Obama into this equation.
J-Jammer has jumped into every thread talking about Obama.
Classic conservative strategy. As we've witnessed with the clip. Everyone stop feeding into it and make them respond to the issue at hand.
It's like talking to a petulant child in denial.
The tragedy is I actually agree with some conservative thought. There tactics however are so juvenile and sophomoric that I could never support them. - 3 years ago

What's fair?Of course The Daily Show has a slight left lean. Fox is far right, CNN is center right, msnbc is center left.
Journalism stopped being unbiased years ago. The blogoshpere made it worse.
I apologize if you thought I was calling you conservative. I was merely commenting on how you use their tactics. Subject changes are only acceptable once you have addressed the initial issue.

That's the point, JJ and you missed it. Jon Stewart is NOT A NEWSCASTER. He's a comedian. As he himself said - 'my show comes on after a show with puppets making crank calls.' He's not expected to be balanced, fair, or anything else a real news anchor is expected to be. That's why people love him, and what he has to say.
If the Fox News guys came up with a comedy show about the news that actually lasted (they have one somewhere I think, I saw it on after 2am and it was REALLY bad), then we will have some basis for comparison. Until then, he's better entertainment than most of the media outlets covering this crap, and the people who disagree with him can always watch Colbert. And get made fun of, incessantly. - 3 years ago

Unfortunately, America is asleep or entranced or just stupid. It doesnt ever seem to matter how many inconsistencies are shown in the republicans logic, large numbers of the public line up in lock step behind them. I love the Daily Show and the political points that Jon Stewart makes comedically are right on spot. But unfortunately again, he's preaching to the choir. We all are on these posts! Years ago Rush Limbaugh and the conservative talking heads on TV began convincing people to hate liberals and to hate democrats. Now its just a big sports event to the people on the right. Whether you can show them hands down that their policies are wrong for America and their ideologies don't work, aren't supported by the majority and may not even be in their own interest, all they want is for their candidate to win...or more accurately, that their opponents LOSE. So many Americans just have to be number 1, realistically or fantastically.
The only reason that progressives have a shot at making any progress this election is because even the most adle minded, koolaid drinking republican out there has a hard time defending the disaster which was the last 8 years. And the worst part is, that even if we can squeek out a majority of voters to support our progressive candidate(or as close as we could get to progressive), the republicans and their corporate benefactors have already got the election rigged with faulty electronic voting machines and underhanded political disenfranchisement schemes.

I agree, great post. The rigged voting machine theory still ranks up there with other conspiracy theories for the moment, which doesn't mean there is no truth to it, only that most, like you said, want to wear their blinders.
If I could ask Obama one question it'd be, "Why not pull back the curtain, start shining the helicopter spot light in every dark corner? Ooze truth, expound upon it, build it, and boil the republicans." Obviously this would have to be done tactfully as to not upset to majority of the populace from seeing what they'd rather not acknowledge, but it needs to happen, he's on the verge of being rolled by wedge issues.
Palin is the embodiment of the wedge, the simplest tool. Her track record speaks for itself, but the most glaring to me is how she won her first election in a small, not so crazy into politics, Alaskan city against a multiple term incumbent by ramping up religious fervor, and abortion issues.

No shit, thank you for speaking the truth.
I live in Republican central, with folks telling me how dumb I am for supporting a muslim and other nonsense. They simply don't want to check in to reality. I do my best to try and educate them to the facts without starting a neighborhood war, but some people just can't be bothered to understand the truth because then they feel culpable to their decisions supporting the last eight years, so it goes back to 'screw the liberals! You all suck anyway!' Its a long healing process, but necessary nevertheless...
The rigged voting boxes have always scared the shit out of me, because they say in 46-point font block letters that American Democracy is a real sham. If votes are cast incorrectly, if the voice of the people is stifled so broadly and everyone knows it, how is the voting process valid? How is democracy in this country defensible, really? The values we're out promoting at the end of our machine guns is utter bullshit, when faced with the disenfranchisement of millions of voters back home. I keep wondering, is Canadian democracy better? Cause they aren't all that far away... - 3 years ago

nothing more to say than this is perfect and sums everything up that Ive been saying since Palin was nominated.
How DARE the conservatives try and pull the sex card after all the vile things they spit about Hilary. This is a cheap and dirty shot, its just sad that so many people seem to have short attention spans and can't remember what was happening 2 months ago.
It also sickens me to see the Republicans thumping their chests saying "oh we're so progressive! look at us! we are nominating a woman! we're so awesome!" They would have NEVER nominated Palin if it wasnt for Hilary.

Do I hear another "But Clinton lied too" (two wrongs make a right) defense? Rove has lied since the 1987 Texas Gubernatorial race when he "found" a battery-operated "bug" in his office just weeks before the election and sent it off to be analyzed.
Never mind that the battery life on the bug was tested and found to run only 8 hours on the single 9 volt battery (a fact that would have meant those awful Democrats who "No Doubt" broke into Rove's office to plant it without any signs of forced entry would have had to re-burlglarize his office every day to replace the battery.)
Of course his sending the device off to the FBI took the necessary time for the REAL story not to come out until after the election. Rove's candidate won and a 22-year saga of "ROVIAN DIRTY POLITICS" has yet to be matched by anyone else.

These hacks are so obviously caught with their pants down, hands red and stuck in the cookie jar.
Can you please make a plausible argument as to why this isn't the truth? These people are SAYING the opposite things and displaying an OBVIOUS double standard!
I would ask you to not be so sure that you are right about the media.
The daily show doesn't purport to be fair, nor balanced, so quit worrying about whether it may be.
That isn't the point here.
Stand up and defend your point of view! Quit cutting and running from legitimate arguments that you know you are wrong on!
It's OK to admit you aren't right, it is a display that you are smart and confident enough to realize that you don't know everything.

Double standard is a show that claims to show both sides...favoring one over the other for the exact same things done.
There is NOTHING that a republican has done that a democrat has not done themselves if not worse....
There neither better than the other and any news outlet that plays or panders to either side isn't worthy of being believed on everything they report...ok?
Because you love John doesn't mean his words are true all the time.
And I didn't state that what he said here was not true, just he favors Obama and it's sad that he can't just out right say it he has to insinuate and pretend he's being fair when he's not.
Then you have people get all over FoxNEWS for doing the same thing and yet allowing John to get away with it.
Double standards? Don't even get me started on how many people fail on that account.

Oh? Good! Please, if you can find 4 clips of democrats biting their tongues just as badly as these it would be good for the discussion. I know you won't, nor can you.
You are trying to deflect the issue by saying that democrats to the same things etc. etc.
You may like McCain, and know he doesn't tell the truth?!?!?
Has Barack Obama ever outright lied? Can you prove that he was trying to mislead people?
We know that you haven't asserted that these aren't true, but the fact that this doesn't disgust you is the problem.
Fox Ness claims to be fair, and balanced. So, of course, when hypocrisy such as this rears it's head we will point it out. The daily show is a comedy show, and never purports to be fair or balanced.
Yes there is one that is better than the other, one tries to lead you to believe things with lies and exaggerations, the other shows clips of people contradicting themselves and making stupid statements.
