Obama's Freudian Slip - Oops!

JoKnows

Everytime a Republican "mis-speaks" the press jump on it like pirhanas to strip the Republican to the bone.

Why not do the same for Barack "Who's Sane?" Obama?

For the text:

He is pretty good at spin and backpedalling - maybe they should have those in the next Olympics and he could win there....

    • Obama said exactly what he meant, (although he could have phrased it better) it was the interviewer who misunderstood. He was commenting on whether John McCain had personally spread rumors about his supposed Muslim faith. Those of you who don't get it should just keep your heads in the sand and continue voting republican.

I just wish Obama wouldn't run from being a Muslim quite so fast/hard. He should make a point to say that being Muslim isn't a bad thing, but that he's clearly Christian, and has been his entire life.

Personally, him being a muslim wouldn't matter to me. And I'm not a McCain hater, but the religious right is scary, and unless you're a bible thumping white guy, you should be scared too!!

    • lol the ole' ''secret Muslim'' routine.
I dont get it...he went to a Christian church for twenty years and yet he is a Muslim? Doesnt make sense to me. And anyway I dont think religion should rule out any candidate.

    • Wait a minute... this isn't a Freudian slip, Jo. Slip of the tongue, maybe, but not Freudian. A Freudian slip is sexual in its nature, like saying "its a bit nipply out today" or "this is my breast friend"... The point I'm making here is that if we're going to hang on every word that these guys are saying, we ought to be more careful with our own, you know what I mean?

    • the reason it's so important to distinguish his religion is because a candidates religion is extremely important to the majority of voters. It's sad but true, and if Obama openly said he was a muslim from the beginning he would not have lasted more than a few months in the primaries. i'm just saying I think that's the way things really are. I'm sure 99% of the people on current think the idea of this is absurd and bigotted but a huge amount of american people, even a large portion of democrats, still think in these terms.

Well that goes without saying thornman. I asked the question myself knowing that most people don't use their brains, and resent those that do. Hopefully, they have enough smarts to let the intelligent people pick the President this time around. I don't know how much more stupidity I can take.

    • jfk was catholic, and the public was upset because he would have had to answer to the pope if anything arose. big deal. if barack were muslim, it would have to be fine. there's nothing scandalous or wrong about following islam. that's the beauty of the freedom of religion. besides, he has always claimed to be christian, and i have no reason to doubt him. he has nothing to hide. people are just having fun spreading rumors. the one surrounded by controversy is palin. way to go, mccain.

I'm sorry, you must not know anyone in a small town. I have family in Idaho who see Obama's supposed Muslim faith as a sign of the apocalypse. They have contingency plans to leave the country if he gets elected because they can't live under a Muslim. And they are NOT alone.

I hate to say it, but most of the people who aren't exposed to lots of cultures in their daily lives are fearful of anyone different from them, and whether they admit it or not many are very bigoted. I know my family is (even though they claim not to be).

Exactly! Why isn't anyone discussing the blatant and tacit discrimination of Muslims that this issue brings up. The question should not be "Is he a Muslim?" But why do we care?!

    • Hey, try to keep up: today Sean Hannity tried to backpedal and claim that Faux Noise never claimed Barack to be a Muslim! I guess if they are running from this, perhaps the rest of you Barack-attackers might too?

It is SO pathetic. On the one hand he is a Muslim (which I still don't get why that is a crime) and on the other hand he is derided because of his church?! Keep your stories straight people

    • I see. So I guess this whole thing of freedom of religion really means that being a Muslim bars one from being president.....

It really makes a lot of sense if you think about it for a long time.

    • I have to admit... It came out of his mouth quite naturally. So naturally as a matter of fact that he didnt even appear realize he what he said and made no attempt to correct himself until he was corrected.

You have to at least acknowledge that he has had a fairly strong Muslim influence in his youth that is undeniable. The question is what does he truly believe.

Quite honestly I dont really care what his faith is because I am already at odds with his political positions. But I do find it interesting that he seems to always get drawn back into the issue, and its not always that right that drags him back.
From the controversy at his church, I mean come on really? You attend a church for over 20 years and you call the pastor a mentor and father figure, but yet you some how miss the fact that the guy spews anti-white, anti-American retoric almost every Sunday.

Hell I was raised a Catholic and managed to sleep thru most sermons, I at least knew what the general message was that was being handed out every week.

In the end I dont believe that it will be the far leftist policies that will do Obama in but it will be all the unknowns that surround him. From his Faith to his to is experience to his ties with the corrupt Chicago politcal machine.

He's run a pretty slick campaign dodging those unknowns up to now.... but we are not in the primaries any more...

Far more frightening is Sarah Palin's upbringing as a Dominionist Pentecostal, a church that believes Alaska is a "refuge" for the end-times. She spoke at the Assembly of God in June, speaking about "God's plan" for the war in Iraq. Do you believe in separation of church and state? Obama does--and points out it's in the Constitution. I'd like to know what you think of the reportingthat the Palins have been active members of the Alaska Independence Party, which per the LA Times has ties to the Chechen rebels, which in turn have ties to OBL.

Interesting - I remember doing my own research on the AIP and they touted her membership, and involvement, until 1992. Her husband was involved as well, but no one deemed that necessary to expunge.
Its amazing how much can be wiped clean when a person is running for office...
Nothing can wipe clean her pentacostal background, however, and speaking from first hand experience with that particular branch of the Christian faith, I'd prefer that this fringe stay out of the White House, as it does not accurately represent even 15/16ths of the American population. If Kennedy could get flack for being Catholic, and people are going to give Obama crap for having some Muslim influence, no matter how small, Palin's faith is definitely on the table.
To everyone who values truth in advertising and in the media, start taping every news broadcast now - if someone wants the news to be changed its all too easy. Make it impossible!

    • Good grief, the ADD of the public is staggering. WATCH the videos in their ENTIRETY. Barack MEANT to discuss his supposed Muslim faith--the false meme that he is a Muslim. It was Stefanopoulous who screwed this up by ASSUMING that Barack had said something he did not mean to say. I must say it's really amazing to me that people who cannot seem to pay any attention to facts are so interested in drilling into these details in order to twist them around.

    • Give us a break. He is not a Muslim and he was referring to the PACs campaign to spread that rumor. You want to talk about someones church? Let us talk about Palins. Snake handling is downright freaky.

    • JoBlows - this is really weak. I love how the media is suddenly the Republican's arch enemy - even though CBS edited that interview with Whacky Mac to correct his error.

If that's not media helping out, nothing is.

How's that Pakistan-Iraq border, Whacky Mac?

    • oh come on.
Obama was obviously putting his "muslim faith" in paretheses, and the interviewer immediately jumped in to correct him even though Obama knew what he was talking about. You would only think Obama was "admitting" to being muslim if you had no ability to follow the conversation.
