    • great piece! The media ruined this election and distorted the public into voting for candidates that are not the best possible candidates. The sad part is, at this time in history is when we need the best possible candidate, not the one that sounds good.

    • I've recently started going to this site, PolitiFact, any time I hear a claim made by either side. Currently, both candidates have been caught flip-flopping and lying. Since this site is objective, I find it refreshingly free of the typical slant of mainstream media.

    • I go to various sites for information. There are many, many sites to find information, too many to visit them all. These are the ones I go to daily.

      www.whatreallyhappened.com
      www.buzzflash.com
      www.opednews.com
      www.huffingtonpost.com
Rule of thumb; trust but verify.

If you find errors in what they have posted, let them know. If you post something you find out later is incorrect, go back to the post and let others know, your post was incorrect. Keeping it honest must start with us. I dont want misinformation from either party. Facts matter, the truth matters most.

Stopping spinners from spinning distorted information should be a law. At least in the court of public opinion. People should stop accepting spin. Demand facts!

    • As a former 'mainstream media' person turned digitial media maven, I must say, analysis from alternative resources is imperative for ANY form of critical thinking skills on ANY issue these days.

One of my favorite practices as a nonpartisan, nonprofit entity (Shaping Youth.org) is to 'spot the spin' on the same article reported from different 'editorial' angles, in diff. countries. (yes, we know news is SUPPOSED to be objective, ahem) It's key to refraining from America-centric myopia...

I think 'the voice of the massive middle' is better served by citizen journalism these days than the fabled five conglomerates...The link I added is how to play 'whack a mogul' to connect the dots on who owns what in 'big media' since it's down to single digit numbers.

That said, the same thing is happening ONLINE...Google, can you hear me now? ;-) Critical thinking, folks, media literacy. Always.

you know like lobotomized sheep near a shear cliff incase thoughts or ideas should arise or if one wants to speak, their is an easy "oops" they must have slipped attitude for the hierarchs .

    • Barack Obama must take on mainstream media if he wants to get his message out. Today on MSNBC Morning Joe, Bill Clinton was shmoozing Sarah Palin. He was complimentary, he didn’t talk about how they have openly lied to the American people. Of course he didn’t mention the lies, he was Impeached for lying. He pals around with George Bush Sr. Morning Joe used Bill Clinton to spin for McCain. Democrats must stop being tools for the right. Mainstream media hasn’t changed, they spin for the right.

The show then turned it around and showed Michelle Obama talking about how we need to choose our next President and Vice President. We can’t choose someone because they are pretty. She talked about working together, neighbor to neighbor, people helping people. They told the American people who were watching that Bill Clinton did it right and Michelle Obama did it wrong. Bill Clinton was a tool. Morning Joe showed Michelle Obama and said this is the way you don’t do it. They said Bill Clinton did the right thing and Michelle Obama did it wrong.

What a crock. They are spinning! They are misleading ordinary Americans. They are saying it is wrong to state facts, they should shmooze McCain and Palin as their way to win the White House. What a bunch of shit! Go after McCain and Palin with facts. Facts matter, issues matter, honesty matters! Lies are unacceptable! .

Bill Clinton should have talked about the dishonesty! That should be the “talking point” of every Democrat. We couldn’t trust George W. and we can’t trust them. Mainstream media must be held accountable for spinning. The ride is almost over, it’s time to take back our country. Honesty is the only way forward.

If mainstream media buys the lies, they own the lies. They must be held accountable for the lies also!

Bill knows what he's doing. He knows Obama is a bad choice for America. Michelle doesn't want people to vote for someone because they are pretty. Hey Michelle, how do you think your husband got the nomination? Because he had a better health care plan? LMAO

    • The part that's corrupt is the control of what information is released to the public. It seems to me that we the people run Current since we create and select the news, but if you want to broadcast anything on a network you have to play by certain rules.

None really, you just have to take their affiliated biases into account when you visit them.

That's the best way to look at news. Filter the sources, use inductive reasoning to decide what may or may not be spin.

Jon Stewart is both funny and sad. He makes sad facts funny. Sad that it takes a comedian to be able to state facts. Mainstream media is busy spinning, they dont make us laugh, they are too busy trying to make Americans dizzy.

    • But of course they are or they loose there jobs. The media is owned and operated by big corporations who
have profited by this illegal occupation of Iraq. Now the bills are coming home to roost and many corporations
are thinking maybe we can work this out somehow with
Obama. I'm still waiting for the october surprise.
