Palin's Journal has Misspelling that's causing controversy!!

John McCain's presidential campaign is reeling this morning upon allegations that his running mate, Alaskan Gov. Sarah Palin, is a poor speller. The charge stems from a passage found in her personal journal, which was obtained by the New York Times via an anonymous source.

"Trig was born one week ago today," the journal's Apr. 25, 2008 entry reads. "I love him so much. This is such a joyus [sic] time for our family."

Merriam-Webster.com has no entry for "joyus." However, "joyous" is defined as "joyful." Palin has ignored all requests for comment on the controversy, which has been dubbed "Dummygate."

"I am gobsmacked," said the NYT's source. "Little did I realize when I bought a plane ticket to Alaska, broke into the governor's house, and vetted through her personal belongings that I would find such a startling, stunning bombshell. My heartache at John McCain's blunder is without limit. Would you like to know where I take loads?"

The spelling error has created a firestorm of controversy in the media. On Friday evening's edition of MSNBC's Countdown, host Keith Olbermann devoted his entire hour to the blunder, which he called "the single most egregious error in judgment, Madam Governor, since Eve went apple-picking." In response to this statement of fact, guest Paul Krugman nodded vigorously for nearly one full minute.

When asked for comment about the scandal, Rep. Charles B. Rangel (R-N.Y.) remarked, "What kind of vice-presidential candidate keeps a journal anyway? This woman actually wants to run the country. 'Dear Diary: Today I looked at my pretty face in the mirror for like an hour, then I declared war on Russia.' Bitch retarded."

    • Writing a journal, tape recording conversations, astrology, Go through history and if you have a dislike of an individual, than you can find out what they did during there private moments. Spelling errors, than tell me when an English teacher makes an error is it news worthy. While reading a newspaper or magazine and you find an error, does it make it on the six o'clock news. Errors will come about. Each day people create words, that technically may not be in the dictionary, however they are words and has meaning to particular people. Deal with Palin's policies and not deal with the trivial things.

    • I don't like Palin, but stealing her diary is wrong. That is personal and no one should be able to look at it. I don't care what she is running for.

    • No not her spelling. Her interview with Couric showed she no grasp of foreign relations whatsoever. How many times will the republican leaders have to hold their heads in shame when she opens her mouth? If mccain were truly looking for someone who will take over when he dies, he failed. The entire world is laughing at mccain and the american people for accepting such an incompetant person to lead the nation.

    • Unbelievable! Not her misspelling, but all of you for being so petty. Then again, that is what is expected out of libs. If you don't have a rational thought of your own, then attack the opposition on a personal level.

Umm... "Pot to Kettle - you're black."
Like the past 16 years or so of Repbulican lock-step, stalling and bad policy has gotten us where we need to be in this great country, you hater. I think it irritates those on the right to see the mass-movement of people out of the corporate welfare republican camp. The Obama machine is well organized like Carl Rove had the Republicans in 2000 when you guys slaughtered the character of John McCain and broke him into the sad little shell of a man he is today.

    • C'mon. There are so many substantive reasons to not like Sarah. They, who have never had a spelling error, please cast the first stone.
Why not dislike her because her idea of standing up to big business includes getting her people an increase in oil royalties. What kind of fascism are they running in Ted Steven's home state? The increase was sizable - $1500 to $2300 PER PERSON but makes it worse is that they are earning a large portion of those royalties from drilling on Federal Land. No wonder all of those living in AK want ANWR development. Who the hell lives up there but oil barons?

I say we should get 20,000 progressives to go up there and start our own commune. If we pulled our money... shit.

Whites in AK = 460,170. That's around 70% of the total population of the state. Who are those silly whities? There are more white people there than Native Alaskans (88,026). I say all of the royalties should go to the American Indian and Native Alaskans if corporations feel justified paying for loyalty through the coffers of the government.

If they can assainate the character of Democratic candidates for 16 years (sorry that we were powerless, Bill) we should kick them in their balls. Bad education policy from the 80's and early 90's capped off with a healthy dose of no child left behind has left the country half-retarded and thinking that guns, God and gays are the only reasons to vote.

    • I got the feeling that the article was poking fun at the fact that this was causing such a raucous. The poster wasn't really serious. So group hug.
and look at the last paragraph ha!
It basically IS an onion article like braaain said.
      now smile.

Thank you - I was totally thinking that this must be an Onion reference.
What in Hades name are we all doing reading through a woman's diary? That is just so disrespectful, I can't even begin to understand how it can be justified. I'm not even clicking through to the original article, because I'm more of a "golden rule" sort of girl...

    • @ tainted view: as a chronic bad speller, I would like to think that this is true.

But there are also people who just suck at spelling because they are really fucking dumb.

Say, perhaps, because they never read?
I kind of get the feeling that Palin isn't exactly erudite.

    • it's her journal.
I misspell things and use incorrect grammar all the time here on current.com and that includes a spell checker too.
So I have to play devil's advocate here.

Even though I'm certain she would lose a 2nd grade spelling bee.

    • First off, this article is plain stupid. Second, there was an article a while back that said that people who cannot spell use more of their brain for other things. Food for thought.
