CURRENT SENATE SEAT BREAK DOWN
Party: Republicans
Leader: Mitch McConnell (Kentucky)
Last Election: 49 Seats held by Republicans
Party: Democrats
Leader: Harry Reid (Nevada)
Last Election: 49 Seats held by Democrats
(+ 2 Independents: Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Joe Lieberman of Connecticut i.e. Non-Democrats)
Essentially Bernie Sanders and Joe Lieberman are in the middle. They supposedly caucus with the democrats; however, as we all know, Joe Lieberman seems to be John McCain’s right hand man thus he has sided with the republican vote more than not. This does not make a strong majority! In fact as you can see it essentially makes it a fifty-fifty split. Wait there is more (the filibuster).
THIS IS HOW IT BASICALLY WORKS. If a bill passes the House then it moves to the Senate. The Senate can pass or vote the bill down. If there is a tie, the Vice President, (Dick Cheney), is the one who is required to break the tie. If the bill passes the Senate the President can still veto the bill thus it fails. If the bill makes it through the House, the Senate, and the President, it becomes law. AS YOU CAN SEE THIS IS NO MAJORITY BY ANY MEANS.
THIS IS KEY!
The democrats keep being coined as a do nothing and/or as a miserably failing congress. This is very misleading. In addition, a little known or understood fact or at least one that is either overlooked or ignored by the masses is that of a filibuster. The term 'filibuster' is seen as a tactic for pirating or hijacking a debate or a vote.
The parliamentary procedure known as a FILIBUSTER, or "talking out a bill", is a form of obstruction used in a legislature or other decision-making body. An attempt is made to infinitely extend debate upon a proposal in order to delay the progress or completely prevent a vote on the proposal taking place. Thus the republicans literally can and do hamstring (block) the democrats from accomplishing much of anything. With a republican President to back the republicans, the democrats have essentially been incapacitated.
Going into the 2008 election, the democratic strategy clearly envisions reaching a filibuster-proof majority of 60 in the Senate.
The point here is the democrats have not been able to accomplish much as they are easily blocked by the republicans if the republicans so desire it. Obviously they have so desired!

Freedom of religion is one of the most important liberties as religous person regards. Since that was an important factor in establishing our gov it remains an ongoing battle. A politician will never be elected that doesn't agree. Thus the people have put in power religous politicans, go figure. I love America.

Remember, once a bill passes the House it is still not law.
As mentioned above in my initial post, It must go to the Senate.Ahhh! Then we come to find Joe Lieberman hiding in democrats clothing crying out: I am a democrat! When one looks under the clothing there is no democrat to be found, only a washed up wanna be republican goat.
When all are watching and listening he bleets out his republican chants. I am sure you have recently noticed how Joe nuzzles up next to John McCain. Joe is in hopes of finding a home.
You see Joe has pooped in both of his beds and has no place to call home. Can't tell if he is a republican, a democrat, or maybe just a republocrat.
Oh! Let's get back to the non-majority senate issue. The democrats still can't pass a bill into law since they can't stop the goat, can't stop the filibuster, can't stop the Dicky, and last but not least, can't stop the chimp from his veto.
Just think, after tomorrow we will have to play "Taps" for John McCain's campaign and his filibustering, republican party. Their choke hold on the democrats ability to accomplish any thing will soon come to an end.
A little trivia on where the origin and meaning of taps came from for any interested can be found here: http://www.snopes.com/music/songs/taps.asp

Your observations are edited versions of the reality of Congress.
Whatever you call them it's still twisted.

It is not so much as twisted logic, but merely careful and patient observation over the last, let's say 40 years.
There is no logic to observation: just telling it like it was and is.

juliusBC; Now your one good truth spinner. The Republicans controlled the Congress by filibuster.
The Democrats are not responsible for anything, unless of course it's good.
Democrats could not investagate Franklin Raines CEO of Fanny Mae, because the Republicans would filibuster.
John McCain called for an investigation of Fanny Mae, and the Republicans still filibustered.
Why do the Republican even bother to win a majority in the Congress, when they control it with filibuster?
JuliesBC, you have some twisted logic.

Make your excuses until you feel better. Then go scream or cry into a pillow, if you need to. Much of the reason OUR NATION had problems is because the Congress, run by Democrats, have been totally ineffective.
Personally I think they were just out of practice. For several years before all they did was sit around and try to think of ways to criticize and make issues for the White house and to Divide America, so that they would have an Agenda. Ok, they got very good at that. They divided America very well, and their agenda is loud and clear, so they get more Dems elected, and then they don't remember how to do more than sling mud, so they just ... sat there and filibustered? As you said? Is that another way of just slinging mud internally? At least we know they can do one thing well. (OMG I sound so mean)
Yes, public is mislead, most have no idea that congress is what screwed everything up. They like to just blame Bush.

Angel4truth:
I am under the impression your understanding of a filibuster is a bit clouded. With the so called false majority which I believe was clarified initially, it is the republicans that would need to filibuster the democrats to run out the clock. Not the other way around as you are implying.
This is why so many just don't get it. They would rather choose to ignore the basic math of this equation and grab some good old republican feel good salve and wring their hands together. The sweat derived is then spun into a finger point at the democrats. Thus another illegitimate republican talking point is born! Go John-ny Go! Go! Go!

Why didn't the Congress investigate Fae May, and Freddie Mack?
McCain called for an investigation, but the Democrats refused.
Why weren't there investigations of sub-prime lending?
Why weren't there any restriction on sub-prime lending, like proof of employment, or reasonable down payments on the loans?
Congress was part of the problem, and not part of the solution, until it was too late.

They blocked the Democrats on many numbers, but also humilating themselves in the process, we have seen little of what the democrats can actually do, i particularly, want to see how much they can really do..

Democrats want a bigger government. They always will not matter how big it is. They like socialist think everyone is entitled to needed services like health care, psychological care, education to the highest level, food, shelter, clothing, vacations, etc...Republicans want a society where people can earn these necessities with hard work.

Once again blame it on the Republicans. Have the Dems ever thought of reaching across the aisle. no, they are afraid that will see the light and switch parties.

Not a blame game but instead it is the facts. As to reaching across the isle, the thing you first must establish is what is on the other side of the isle. Just because it is on the other side of the isle does not make it desirable or prudent. One does not reach across the isle just to be nice. I know "reaching across the isle" is a big catch phrase in all elections but don't whip yourself too much with it. The issues are important but the solutions that can be reached are paramount. Not the reaching across the isle. That is just a phrase that gives you a warm fuzzy feeling.

The only reason Lieberman is listed as "Democrat/Independent" is his own desire to undermine the Democratic "majority."
As long as the Democrats have a "majority," the republicans can (and do) claim the Democrat-ruled Senate has done nothing.
Lieberman was actually the millstone around Al Gore's neck in 2004, just as Palin is McCain's millstone.
The only difference is that Lieberman "claimed" to be a Democrat, but espoused a Republican agenda, while Palin is simply too dumb to realize that she is dragging McCain down further than he is sinking on his own Victorian ideas.
