The two-party duopoly and the smothering of the third parties

The two major parties have once again smothered the third parties. The media ignores them, they don’t have the money for nationwide campaigns, and people have to choose the lesser of two evils. I like Obama for the very fact that he’s not a conservative with a winking “hockey mom” for a Vice President. He’s the lesser of two evils though - Bob Barr is the real one I have supported.

America isn't as free as people think. We have choice in America, but the two major parties and the current political system repeatedly usurp our choice.

    • You think that your vote for president actually matters? Nope. The chances of it making a difference are 1 in 65 million. Electoral votes are all that really matter, as GWB demonstrated in 2004. America's political system is not Democracy, as they would have you believe. In fact, it is a Constitutional Confederated Democratic Republic. All democracy is representative. You vote for your state reps, who supposedly uphold your ideals when they vote for president. But it fails, because politicians are inherently greedy, corrupt, power-hungry monsters who won't think twice about selling out to SIGs (special interest groups). A more pure form of democracy is needed urgently if the will of the people is to ever be accurately represented.

    • We will finally get over the racism aspect of our history once we stop making race such a big issue.......... Certain laws and policies make it difficult if not impossible to have a chance at the rpesidency. All of which should be revoked in the interests of true democracy. RNC and the DNC are one in the same and one has to match a certain criteria to be allowed to run under the republican or democratic name (at least on the presidential level). This can be proved by looking into the Nevada primaries and how they shut down the nomination process in the state because the delagates voted for Ron Paul. He does not have the same ideals as these commitees wish to keep pushing through our governmental actions.

    • I too was not surprised Obama won.

Athough I did sigh a little sigh of relief. It gave me goose bumps to think that perhaps American votes do matter and the majority voted in a black president for the first time in the history of this country.

      But...

I did not have the hell fucking yeah this rocks euphoria many others did.

I knew the candidate that I voted for had no chance of winning but that doesn't change the fact the I thought he was the best man for the job.

What surprises and depresses me is how little votes the alternative parties received.

Keep up the good work. We have to remember that the American Revolutionaries didn't win many battles, but they did win the war.

    • Morgan, Thanks for all the info and updates on the 3rd party candidates and where they stand throughout this campaigne. You made everyone realize how much of a choice the voters really did have on election day.

    • I voted Bob Barr to support the Libertarians and hopefully make the Repub.'s do some reflecting but it really ticked me off that Barr didn't take part in the 3rd Party debate. He really could have won some support.

Does anyone know why he didn't attend?
