    • I'd say it's no surprise, inevitable & business as usual in capitalist society. I'd be curious how much of that $3k actually goes to local communities in Kenya or to preserve animals in protected parks. Anyone want to venture a guess?

    • GROSS. safaris are gross. they are often also means to hunt precious wild animals.

      by using obama they are linking something positive in the world with yesterday's elitism

      Have you ever been on a safari? In Kenya federal law prohibits the shooting of any animal in the wild. Even zebras, Gnus and Elefants are protected even though they have more than enough of those. Even Tribespeople are prohibited to hunt. (of coursesome do it nonetheless).

      Today a "Safari" is a plain foto-shooting trip. Some may be more ecolgical responsible than others but all bring good money for the often very poor countries. And while some african countries allow the shooting of animals like elephants, lions or gazelles, they ask very high prices (10000 USD for an Elephant) for it and monitor the figures of the species closely.
