In a nutshell, the employer payroll tax that will be required for health coverage under HR 676 is considerably less (usually one-third to one-half) of what government entities now pay in health insurance premiums for their workers. Set asides to cover health benefits for already retired government workers will no longer be required. HR 676 will mean savings for public employees, too.

It is the 1,000 lb. gorilla in the room. It would even fix the big three auto makers if we had single payer health care. Recently i've heard 2800 dollars of every single car that rolls off the assembly line goes for health benefits. What a disadvantage our manufacturing base has trying to compete in a world were other country's pay for their citizens health care. Do it now this country must insure it's people.
