He also insists that the use of “counterfeit” paper money instead of a gold-backed currency is “insane,” and declares it is “foolhardy” for Barack Obama to propose national health care under the present economic conditions.
The Texas legislator ran for president as the Libertarian candidate in 1988, and sought the Republican presidential nomination beginning in March 2007. He withdrew this past June and did not endorse GOP candidate John McCain.

Because we've seen so many socialist experiments go so very well... I wouldn't blame companies for child labor, I'd blame families that put their children to work at that age because it was usual in an aggrarian society for children to work the fields as soon as able. They attempted to translate that into the industrial world and we are looking back with hindsight saying how disgusting that was. I'm sure one day people will look back upon our ways and say how disgusting we were for bellowing out such toxic waste upon the world and allowing the massive amounts of corruption to exist in the world. Perhaps before passing judgement you should read some Montaigne, or better yet, the Bible. Don't read the Bible as a rule book, but as a book that shows two sides of judgement, gives a great allegory for the fate of pure compassion, and explains the folly of religion. Don't forget that in the story of Jesus, he came to destroy the temple. The metaphor is perfect.

Ron Paul has been very clear and very consistent in his belief that "regulations" are the problem.
Ron Paul simply believes that if we returned to the level of government we had in 1899 then everything would magically be fine.
I have no doubt that Ron Paul sincerely believes this.
But he is, frankly, very ignorant of history and economy.
The reason all these "burdensome regulations" exist in the first place is because businesses simply refused to enact them on their own.
Ron Paul, God bless'em, simply doesn't grasp this concept.
The reason our "evil" government imposed an 8hr work day and over time pay and outlawed child labor is because businesses simply refused to adopt these common sense procedures on their own.
The Ron Paul's of 1899-1945 all said outlawing child labor and enacting this horrible "government regulation" would destroy the economy. They were ignored and today we enjoy a high quality of living without child labor abuses.
We've seen what LESS oversight and LESS regulations have done to the economy.
Most modern economists dismiss Ron Paul as kook because a) he has no formal training in economics and b) his ideas of just "getting rid of everything" are just not grounded in reality or history.
Having said that, I think he is a nice guy and is very sincere in his beliefs.

I think Ron Paul is hit and miss as well.
I will say though, that backing the dollar by gold again would change the economy for the better. I also support his belief in abolishing the federal reserve.
At the end of the day, Ron Paul truly understands who rules over our gov't and is attempting to put a stop to it, but I think deregulating everything is a bad idea. A shift in regulation is really the key IMO.

Whoever is saying the Bush's deregulation is equivalent to the deregulation that Ron Paul is talking about is an idiot. There has not been a deregulated free market in this country since a national government began regulating interstate trade. Granted, there are some aspects to regulation that are good. The enforcement of accurate representation of goods and their values is not the same thing as regulating access to those goods and/or giving goods to one group while taking them from another. Government cannot give things to people from nothing. Everything that is giving must be taken from somewhere else. Ron Paul isn't suggesting that everyone will be successful under a deregulated market, but he is saying more people will have more opportunities. The part not talked about is the harsh realities that would have to be faced by those who fail. Adding a safety net usually brings a ceilling with it, but if your falling wouldn't you prefer the safety net? Either way, Ron Paul does have a very strong economic understanding. Whoever said he is a youtube kook is making a very ignorant statement. He has been consistent throughout and has a very strong logical argument even if it is hypothetical and ideological (what economics aren't?).

Ron Paul often invokes identical strategies that got us into this mess.
Ron Paul hates government and routinely proclaims that if we just get rid of government "rules and regulations" everyone would be a millionaires and there would be millions of high-paying jobs.
Uh, Ron?
Bush DID get rid of all the rules and regulations.
And instead of some Libertarian utopia....we got fucked over.
The very reason our economy is collapsing is not because of too many rules, but unequivicably because we had too few coupled with zero oversight.

Oh yes I forgot. When the candidates were on the stage during the debates. Dennis Kucinich and Ron Paul had promised everything that would have created an ideal America. They used common sense and intelligence. They spoke the truth. They told you what you needed to hear. Now based on what these two Americans represented, If the American people wanted a prosperous and honest country with ethics and integrity, they would all have voted for Dennis and/or Ron Paul. This election proved that you have now as in the past the best government money can buy. Ron and Dennis continue to spread the truth yet it is reaching deaf ears.

RP is a sensationalist. I've heard him bash the IRS, he's railed OBAMA on his plan in Iraq, the guy is quick to endorse the popular perception on issues, but he's scarce in providing detailed strategies. Maybe if there was some salt to his points he'd be more than a youtube hit with the American people. This guy's a yahoo in my book. The best thing he brings to the table: he's a dead-on ringer for Gandolf the Wizard!! "YOU WILL NOT PASS!!!!!

Ryanroe you are correct. The government has been under corporate control since President wilson gave them the power. The takeover has been slow and subtle, but complete. I was amazed to find that FDR was paart of the corporate system. And what is beyond my comprehension is the fact when someone like George Bush is so wrong and can still be right just because he is president. The fact the office of the presidency is infinitely immune to error is wrong. The man holding the office of the president shall be impeachable and if he is not he should be removed and not be held to a status of a God. He is human and just being an American president is not an excuse for immunity from indictment and prosecution. Scott Ritter admits that Bush was wrong but because he is president it is excusable. I am appalled that People can be so suicidal. If something is wrong there is no gray area's especially when human lives are involved.
The above coment on the destruction of the dollar, even the Russian news has printed the story that when the dollar collapses the Amero will be the new currency. The whole world know what is happening but the American people are just sitting on their thumbs and watching the collapse of the dollar and thousand of others are suffering and going hungry. Families will have nothing to put on the table. I think George Bush the president along with the congress has done his part in expediting the North American Union and the eventual global union. Englands prime minister Brown has ask OBama to join in the process. And it appears that OBama is putting on a good show to protect American ideals but is it for real? I prefer to hold judgement. OBama's wife has said that she supports her husbands efforts in globalization, and of course Biden's warning that there will be bloodshed and genocide leads me to wonder what is the next global catastrophe they have concocted?
I was working is Germany during the early stages of what was known as the European Economic Community and it gradually moved in steps to become the European Union. The same has happened here with Nafta, Cafta and now finally we are nearing the completion of stage three of the north American Union. The really final stage of the Global Union will be ugly. Our constitution will be stashed away and forgotten as there can be no recording in history top show that Americans had a country and a constitution that guaranteed freedom of speech, press, religion and life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. We have not been the electors of the Politicians for many years. We have been given a selection of candidates and the candidates make a showing and the CFR has the final say. This is my opinion. Henry Kissinger is still running the country. He is the one who feels that we stupid citizens have no business telling this intelligensia what to do. In the 1960's when Pittsburg Pa. was the political machine for Pennsylvania, Governor Lawrence was the leader of the political machine and stated the American people had no business forming an opinion of the Viet Nam war since they didn't have the intelligence to make a decision. And so it is Washington has been going on for years going against the will of the masses. Congress has been party to the same. It is no wonder that the people have lost their country and they deserve to suffer the consequences. There has been enough of truth and information put up for public knowledge yet the public has no interest in the truth. You have been feeling th squeeze for years now with the out sourcing the Jobs to overseas. I and millions of other elderly will not be around for the final chop but America will be a long forgotten memory. But in an infinite universe the time American Empire existed isn't a quantum particle within an atom. - 3 years ago

The American people are soley responsible for inactivity. Blogging and venting online does little by way of change in this country. Our politics is only as good as the pressure the people put on it. It's nothing but our fault GW was in office for 8 yrs. If there's corruption inside of the reserve we need to root it out and protest in the streets.

That is the whole plan. When the Dollar collapses the Amero will become the new currency. There will be no more dollars.
Imagine all of the kids and innocent victims who have died for America and a group of world bankers moved in and captured America with out firing a shot. That is the next stage of world globalization. George Bush with the help of congress did their job well.
We seriously need to keep writing and make the entire Bush administrtation accountable and force the Congress and the DOJ to indict them all on criminal conspiracy to dewstroy America and the Constitution. - 3 years ago
