The News of The World reported that Harry, third in line to the British throne, used offensive terms to refer to people from Pakistan and people of Arab descent.
Harry, who is an army lieutenant in the Household Cavalry's Blues and Royals, is purported to have made the remarks in 2006 in an airport departure lounge as soldiers waited to travel to Cyprus for training exercises.
The newspaper said in a statement that in the video, Harry referred to one colleague as "our little paki friend" — using a derogatory term for people of Pakistani origin.
It reported that he called another cadet — who was wearing a headscarf — a "raghead." The newspaper said that the video was filmed by other cadets and supplied to the newspaper.
St. James's Palace — the office of Harry and his elder brother Prince William — said on Saturday that Harry was sorry for any offense caused by his use of the word "paki."
"Prince Harry fully understands how offensive this term can be, and is extremely sorry for any offense his words might cause," spokesman Patrick Harrison said in a statement.
"However, on this occasion three years ago, Prince Harry used the term without any malice and as a nickname about a highly popular member of his platoon. There is no question that Prince Harry was in any way seeking to insult his friend."
Harrison said that Harry had used the other offensive term to refer to either the Taliban or Iraqi insurgents.
"Neither the army nor the armed forces tolerates inappropriate behavior in any shape or form," Britain's defense ministry said in a statement Saturday. "The Army takes all allegations of inappropriate behavior very seriously and all substantive allegations are investigated."

Khan's father Muhammad Yaqoob Khan Abbasi said he was "very, very hurt" by the remarks, telling the Daily Mail newspaper from Pakistan: "That word he used is a hate word and should never be used against any Pakistani.
Any Pakistani who simply 'looks the other way' when such an insult is passed is doing so because the system (such as in the Metropolitan Police) exerts a pressure to keep quiet or face losing your job- and it doesn't matter how senior you are:
Then you are at the mercy of the English Legal System (ahem!). And even if you are awarded any kind of justice you will be forever unemployable in the same capacity ever again. Frankly its too much of a price to pay. I wouldn't complain if it happened to me as other things come first- like paying the bills and 'putting food on your family' as one such other misguided moron once said. But having to keep quiet about things like this as so many Pakistanis have done for so long because you can't raise them in any constructive way builds up massive resentments and if that happens over generations the effect is exponential and you can only imagine the sea of sentiment that would come to exist against the hypocrisy of what the system in Britain puports to represent and what it actually represents- as demonstrated by our new Monarchy members and indirectly supported by our government.

Calling someone a 'paki' never has and never will be acceptable. To say in retrospect that the word 'paki' or the 'n' word or any other racial term was spoken in an unmalicious way is initself a racist explanation because it is based on the premise that the word is not offensive. Whether it is offensive or not is not for the caller of it to decide. The word 'paki' is a broken and abused version of its original and fuller form Pakistani that was invented and popularised mainly by the English. Just like the people for whom this term was invented it has undergone a forced change after not being deemed worthwhile in its original form. When will racists realise the hurt it inflicts on others. So how dare anyone other than a Pakistani decide what it means for Pakistanis to be called 'Paki'.So many Pakistani youth who are growing tired and resentful of these attitudes are realising that perhaps they will never be accepted for who they are.Pakistanis are picked on for supporting their country. Most specifically in cricket matches- or never Italians when it comes to football (who are generally known to be spectactularly nationalist), or French or even West Indians- only Pakistanis. Pakistanis have really had enough of being picked on and are sick of negative media for example reports that they are mostly on benefits or lazy or for not being 'British' enough. The truth of the culture of Pakistanis is that they are respectful of authority, devoted to the care of their elderly and families whether or not they are employed, hold professional status in high regard and are industrious in pursuance of these things as well as being naturally talented in business.I can very well relate to the young Pakistani teenager who in run down parts of North England where there are few opportunities but the opportunity to get high on drugs and fall into a life of crime, why that teenager decides, after a stream of negative and constant social/ public commentary regarding his racial background whether on the street or from the possible future King of England decides one day that enough is enough and perhaps his Britain is no friend to him but an enemy. And before you can fire a klashnikov the idea of joining the enemy's enemy in a fight against one another seems suddenly very appealing. That may sound shocking but its no surprise its come to this for some Pakistani's.Most Pakistanis I know have tried as best they can to combine the values inherited from their parents generations with the mostly opposite ones in Britain, some of them willingly so but often 'forcedly' through media pressure and labelling of non-compliers as 'pakis' and other insulting words relating to their dress for instance.Britain needs to stock take and analyse why such a bizarre phenomenon of home grown 'Talibans' has occurred. How is it possible that people who grow up in a particular place, have their best friends there, fall in love there, go to work there and grow families who will eventually die there- how can they grow to hate that place?? It is a completely unnatural response that goes against the human core and against what we observe everywherelse and yet its happened and probably continuing to happen here, in Britain. Pakistanis are frustrated and increasingly unhappy that they are still regarded by many in the establishment as 'pakis' and rightly so.And hopefully people realise that its exactly this attitude that goes with casual usage of such terminology- as in the Mets case which leads the victim to develop feelings of injustice and radicalisation. If a TV personality is abusive he loses his job but if our fine young Prince does the equivalent we should all be satisfied that he has at least bothered to switch off the video journal camera for the time being and pop back to have a public statement issued for him whilst he downs another beer in Mahiki.

he is ridiculously out of touch but I'm in two minds about whether he should be punished so much. I mean, I suspect in the military circle he was in it wasn't really a term of abuse, just as some London friends I know will call each other niggers or pakis. Reclaiming formally racist terms and making them non-abusive (as long as no offence was also taken) is fine by me.

Even Daddy got pulled into the whole Royal racism row, but his friend "Sooty" came to the rescue, defending the Royal family and claiming Charles has 'zero prejudice' and that his nickname was "term of affection with no offence meant or felt".

The Brits ought love and respect their royals more than they do. At least they still have them. And this younger generation is something to be proud of . I have watched William and Harry grow up from afar, They have had their share of bullshit brought on by their relatives. But the y both embody what it means to be royal. They are young, honorable Briton's and as an American I am proud of these two young men.

It's just military talk, I don't see what the big deal is. If he wanted to offend some people he would put his Nazi uniform back on and go to Israel.
