Yes, I can see how ending torture, inspiring people to get involved in community services, investing in our education and infrastructure, and ending a military prison that has been a foreign policy nightmare is really hurting us.....Oh, by the way, thanks for Bush. Now, if you don't want to be apart of the solution then step back so we can rebuild our country from the devastation the republicans caused.

Can we fix economic woes by government spending? Government has no money unless it comes from taxing, borrowing, or creating money. Each of these is essentially a tax.
If taxes are taken from individuals and corporations and spent on extra government projects, it is merely taking jobs out of the private sector and moving them into the public sector. And which, do you think, is going to be more efficient with this money? For every public job created by a gov project, a private job has been destroyed elsewhere.

We can fix the economy through government spending. It has been done before quite successfully. The private sector as you may have noticed, hasn't been doing quite so well lately.
At times, government spending is the most effective stimulus to a bad economy because it can be applied directly, getting people to work immediately. And there is assurance that money will be spent on things people MUST have, like bridges, roads, etc. rather than on pet rocks and a 16th flavor of doritos.
Our other options are fading fast or gone. The interest rate can't be lowered any more. Taxes really can't be much less. It's time to deficit spend and get the economy rolling again. Borrowing money is a sad way to do it, but 20 years of tax and interest rate cuts have left us with no options.

We're obviously not going to agree on this, but It can easily be argued that government interference not only caused the Great Depression, but also delayed the market correction.
The fed inflated the money supply, leading to a credit driven boom, culminating in the crash (similar to today). The increased government intervention that followed served only to slow down the market correction.
Also, when you talk of increased spending on public projects to reverse the downturn, it sounds exactly like what Herbert Hoover tried to do. He wasn't so successful.

The things he says, and plans leave me a bit bit speechless. What he's talking about it such a good idea. I especially liked the part about how the administration will be held accountable. And keeping track of taxpayer dollars? So the taxpayer can see? What?
I must honestly say I never thought I would see the day.

Wow! A website where we can track the plan! (recovery.gov doesn't have any info on it yet.) It's about time we the people felt included.

Interestingly enough, I heard (and saw) the weekly "radio" address via the internet. Am I ahead of the curve (as usual) and riding the wave of the future?
Being ahead of the game probably never hurt anybody.
If more people were ahead of (or even aware of) the game, such economic crashes and shameful mis-allocation of valuable resources would arguably never exist in the first place.
Trauma might make you stronger, but that doesn't mean it's necessary.

Luckily he kept it to 5 minutes so my ADD didn't kick in.
America needs better role models out of Hollywood to pull off correcting any of the educational problems we're having. Beyond that, seriously, the system needs to be designed to be much more stable in the future.
If it takes looking to certain people like the former head of Merrill Lynch to get back some of the vast resources they pissed away on things like Roman drapes, so be it.
Hey K-Fed/Puff Daddy/Obama/Friends...anyone want to start a rapper education initiative to start using the presumed talent to influence impressionable minds into sustainable, positive education and service roles instead of advice and glorification that ends with people clogging the jail system?
Can we get some friggin program to clean the trash off of L.A. city streets and freeways while we're at it?
No, seriously. It's all about image.
Barack is putting the tools into place, now the entertainment propaganda needs to back up the future of this country, and we need to keep revisiting the money changers just like Jesus did back in the day.

Finally, a politician who might inadvertently reverse some of the 28 years of rabid Republican damage. Yes, I count Clinton as a Republican. Let's see, southern democrat, Nafta, Monica (oh yeah Republicans have been going for boys lately), doing in the unions. I never could understand why he got all the heat from the Right. False Flag?
