Rachel Corrie’s Family Sues Israel & Caterpillar, Inc.

"And the family of Rachel Corrie has sued bulldozer manufacturer Caterpillar and the state of Israel in connection with her death. The 23-year-old U.S. activist was killed two years ago today in the Gaza town of Rafah. She was run over by a bulldozer operated by an Israeli soldier. We’ll speak to her family later in the show."

_____________________________________________________________________________________

This is the same Caterpillar, Inc who is getting the contract from the new Secretary of Transportation, Ray LaHood. Rahm Emmanuel, member of the Israeli army, phoned the CEO of Exelon before he took the post of White House Chief of Staff (same position Carl Rove had to Bush). Emmanuel is good friends with Ray "Radiation" LaHood, a pro-nuclear Republican from Peoria, Il - home to Caterpillar, Inc. During the Bush years, Peoria turned into a police state (They alleged a 911 highjacker was here). LaHood and Caterpillar are Bush/Cheney/ FISA/ torture/ control freaks and I guarantee all roads/ bridges/tunnels will have the latest military spying/'control the masses' technology invented. The laid off taxpayers, who are now so poor, will jump at these new transportation jobs even though it could mean an end to what freedom we have left. Returning military will also be used. Chicago mafia + Catholic mafia. This is the real corruption in Illinois, Blagojovich was just a diversion. Fitzgerald needs to come to Peoria to clean up the corruption here (or is he too busy protecting Emmanuel?). New roads to transport nuclear waste? Not the future I want.

    • Jan, just a head's up - she didn't stand in front of a bulldozer for the environment. She was defending the home of a Palestinian family.
While I grieve for Ms Corrie and stand behind her cause 100%, the bulldozer company is not responsible for the acts of the people using their products any more than Johnson and Co is responsible for the death of Jeffrey Dahmer, who was killed in prison with one of their broom handles. The bulldozers aren't made specifically for the job of tearing down homes in Israel, and while what happened to Ms Corrie is tragic and should never be repeated, unless a Caterpillar employee was driving it (and even then guilt would be sketchy for the entire company), you just can't hold the manufacturer responsible for her death.

It makes sense. That's the only thing that bothered Me too. It was a criminal act that took Her life. Suing Catapillar is a way to pressure Businesses not to do business with Israel. Now that the Lawyers are involved it will be turned into a circus..Actually they should be suing Russia and Iran for supplying the weapons of war sold to Hamas to continue the killing. In all of this it is the Soldier of the Israeli Army who should be tried for this. I don't know all the details Surrounding the events. Good sense tells Me that You don't go into a War zone and stand against any of the Military Forces involved. It appears that Hamas used Her passions on these issues so there would be an International incident that could be somehow used to incite anger against Israel. This is the M.O. They succeeded. It is so tragic, I stand even fimer in My resolve that Hamas should be eliminated from Palestine.

      Wow.

"Actually they should be suing Russia and Iran for supplying the weapons of war sold to Hamas to continue the killing."
Add the United States for funding and supplying weapons to 'continue the killing', and I'll back you. Otherwise this is an inane statement, placing sole blame on one side. False.

"It appears that Hamas used Her passions on these issues..."
Hamas had nothing to do with this, hydrokat. This occurred not in the 'war zone', but in front of a house of a Palestinian family that was slated to be torn down to make room for a Jewish settlement. No wars, no rockets or bombs, and no Hamas to blame for this act. This was the IDF tearing down a home, and not caring who was in the way.

Hamas is the group that was democratically elected to represent the Palestinian territories - do you honestly want to remove their right to represent themselves however they see fit? The problem with "eliminating Hamas from Palestine" is that you're telling the people who voted them in that their anger isn't valid, that their voices do not count for anything, and, most importantly, that it doesn't matter if they're fed up and want real action. You're telling them that they don't know what's best for them, because by voting a radical group into office they are somehow inferior and don't understand politics or something. They know what they voted in, they understand that it may make some angry, but they also understand that this is the one group that has taken real action to represent the anger and unwillingness to give up in the face of oppression. Sure, they go about it in an extremely violent way, but what other options do they have? I mean, Tibet has been oppressed for almost 60 years now, and fighting back with words hasn't really gotten them squat, yeah? India was able to overcome with a passive-aggressive stance, but that was before rockets, dirty bombs, depleted uranium, and a regime that has been proven to fight dirty and the global stage just doesn't give a shit.
Tell me, if you were being oppressed like they are, and had the benefit of history to learn from, how would you stand up and defend yourself? How _should_ the Palestinian people stop the madness?

    • They kill Americans and get away with it? Didn't we shock and awe an entire country based on that and it was actually a lie? She was there on a mission of peace and was murdered for it. I hope there is justice done for it. And no, that isn't the future I want either. But how many in this country would have the guts to stand up in front of a bulldozer to stop the destruction of our environment, or to fight for peace? How many of those who post on these Internet message boards spewing their hateful diatribes OVER AND OVER again as instructed would be willing to do what Rachel Corrie did to see peace. They all make me sick.
