The Battle Creek, Mich.-based company said Thursday that Phelps's behavior — caught on camera and published Sunday — is "not consistent with the image of Kellogg.''

Great to find this! I already started notice of a need to boycott Kellog on another site. I almost killed myself with Jim Beam before I quit drinking 7 years ago. But 6 years ago, my house was raided for growing my own pot. However, contrary to my horrible experience with alcohol, my pot smoking never hurt me but solely for the raid on my house and the 100% invasion of my privacy. That is, the detriment from pot was strictly fabricated by the powers-that-be and that was for reasons to do with their own greed and amorality. Some narcissistic, selfish, money-hungry vapid soulless cretin doesn't care if I'm persecuted as long as his alcohol or manufactured pharaceutical has the greatest amount of market share that he can manage to claw into his hoard.
Anyhow, I've created a list of Kellog products so as not to leave any doubt about what we should all refrain from buying:

I will NOT be buying kelloggs products any longer.
It is disgusting that they immediatly jump on the Drug War band wagon.
It has been far to long we have listened to the vile lies and propaganda.
For decades we have been feed lies in the name of the "drug war" and what do we have to show for it.Trillions in debt, milions of non violent users in prison, drugs are on every corner of every city and criminals are making large profits and paying NO TAXES.
We have to be honest about drugs, not all drugs are the same.
You cant just lump everything together and call them all DANGEROUS.
Doing this causes confussion and distrust.
What about the teen who tries marijuana and sees it is not dangerous, Then he thinks back to the lies he was told and wonders if they lied about heroin and cocaine as well.
Cannabis is not the same as other drugs.
It should not be lumped into the same category. It is Amazinly non-toxic, Much safer than alcohol or tobacco, has NEVER casued a single recorded death in the history of mankind, and is NOT physically addictive like the narcotic drugs it is lumped together with .
Cannabis is NOT a gateway drug, PROHIBITION is the gateway.
Dealers will sell what every drug they have in stock and they are incredible salesmen.
They don't check ID for age either.
Now, you tell me the drug war is working!!!!!

As one of many who see your sugary cereals as GRRRRRREAT for satisfying the "munchies" (although I'm not so sure it's the healthiest thing for younger children to be eating)
I wonder if you realize how mainstream smoking a bit of herb is in the US? This vilification of a celebrity who is caught in the act is ridiculous. Already Phelps has publicly denounced his own behavior and has apologized... too bad. maybe i'm the only one that is happy?.. i didn't read everyone's response. as a role model for serious kids in the swim world and even those who dream of simply having one olympic medal, i don't think smoking pot is the greatest example. if he weren't punished, what would make him want to change his behavior? it would be different if he weren't in the spotlight. you can all rant and rave about how pot is the coolest thing ever, but really.... it's not.

Why must someone who achieves vast success give up their individuality to serve as a role model? I don't buy this role model crap. He is a successful swimmer and that's what he should be admired for. Other competitive swimmers should emulate his swimming technique, not his entire personality exactly. I tell my kids to be themselves, I don't show them someone on TV and say be like that guy.
One who puts forth a phony personality to be a role model puppet and corporate advertising tool should never be considered a good role model, yet that's what the ignorant masses want from their role models.
Phelps should not modify his behavior. He should not be punished. Marijuana prohibition should end. We should be using common sense and get away from the superficiality of role models and false information about pot.
Oh and you don't have to think that pot is cool. The point is that the laws against it are unjust. Freedom is cool.

Being against marijuana prohibition is not ranting and raving that everyone should be smoking pot. It's fine you don't think it's cool.. and neither do I.. I just like to smoke on occasion. What is wrong is that it could result in jail for simple possession. No one expects Kelloggs or other Phelps sponsors to start using slogans promoting smoking weed because Phelps did .. what would make sense is for his sponsors to have a ? so what attitude and let it slide.
Anyway... Kellogg's use of sugar from GMO sugar beets is enough reason to boycott.... their claim of concern for the children? is a joke.. their products are anything but healthy .. especially the ones marketed to children. - 3 years ago

Don’t be swayed. This goes much further than Michael Phelps. Current.com has become a beacon of information. Jack Herer has been posting a treasure trove of facts here at current, filling the pages with facts about cannabis/hemp. Michael Phelps is a distraction.
Boycotting Kelloggs is one avenue, but don’t loose sight of what enabled Michael Phelps to loose his sponsorship. The cannabis/hemp laws are the real problem. If any changes are going to happen, it will be with facts.
The world is in terrible shape, financially and environmentally. Cannabis/hemp deserves a seat at the table of recovery. Jack Herer daily posts things that would change if cannabis/hemp were not classified the way it is. Richard Nixon changed the classification of cannabis with the stroke of a pen. Barack Obama could change the classification with the stroke of a pen also. Facts are on our side.
Don’t think the struggle will be easy. Mainstream media controls the spin. They “spin” for corporate America. Cannabis/hemp has many uses and environmental friendly, it must scare the heck out of them. A plant generating new industry in America. Cannabis/hemp has history, documentation to back up. Before the Internet, facts could be removed for public view, but today is different. Put your efforts into educating others about the plant “cannabis/hemp” and let them know they were misled. Ordinary Americans were denied facts and led to believe distorted facts were truth. Distorted facts are not the truth. Real facts lead to real truth. The truth should win over spin.

So let's get this straight;
Kellogg's is a corporations that produces cereal. By looking at the ingredients listed on their products, it's evident that Kellogg's uses cheap, artificial chemicals (to profit that much more) to produce their cereal.
Michael Phelps was pictured smoking Cannabis, the most natural plant that is smoked today. Not only that, but it's by far the healthiest plant for humans to consume.
So this artificial cereal producing corporation decided to not sponsor one of the greatest athletes of all time because he smoked the healthiest plant in the world?
Interesting.

As is my wont, I was tooling around the internet and came across this at Yahoo. I think it's pertinent. I don't know if Kellogg is the only one that's cut Michael lose, but there are other biggie's that haven't.
Take note Kellogg. You're in the minority.
Yahoo quoted:
The Battle Creek, Mich.-based company said Thursday that Phelps’s behavior— caught on camera and published Sunday in the British tabloid News of the World— is “not consistent with the image of Kellogg.”The company put Phelps on boxes of its Frosted Flakes and Corn Flakes.
The 23-year-old swimmer, who won eight gold medals in Beijing, has kept the backing of many sponsors since the photo surfaced from a November house party at the University of South Carolina.
Among those standing by him, even if they don’t condone his behavior, are Visa Inc., Speedo, luxury Swiss watchmaker Omega and sports beverage PureSport’s maker Human Performance Labs.
Phelps apologized for his “regrettable” behavior and “bad judgment” after the photo appeared.
Phelps’s agent was not immediately available to comment.
Kellogg had contracts with Phelps and other Olympic athletes to support its association with the U.S. Olympic team. The company said in a statement that it won’t renew its contract with Phelps, which expires at the end of February.
Kellogg would not disclose the value of its deal with Phelps.
Now I expect it's going to be that Visa doesn't sell kids cereal. That's a valid point. But if Kellogg wasn't making a big deal out of it; would it be a big deal?
Kellogg can sponsor whomever they like, or no. But by taking this stance they've put a label on Michael and he doesn't rate it. If they won't drop the thing, least they could do is issue an apology.

There are more news things that happen around the world and all you people who promote this stuff care about is this stuff....obsessive.

I suspect that if you, yourself, did some free time behind bars or watched a friend removed from his wife & kids because he prefers not get drunk when he relaxes then your opinion would be a tad different.
We're faced not only with an opinion a lot of folks formed not from knowledge but from propaganda, but with a situation where our country is locking up citizens that aren't even criminals. Truth is; there's nothing wrong with it. What's wrong is the prohibition. It's not stopping pot use - or even slowing it down. What it IS doing is wasting serious dollars, making criminals out of people that aren't, and here lately we're now funding a war against the Mexican govt. Somebody better say something.

I opened this one because I already posted in one that was (about Phelps) posted before this one. But this one is full of PROPAGANDA for what YOU think is right. Propaganda is an over used phrase for putting a negative spin on those that don't agree with you's ideas. If you are suppose to be creative because smoking pot....I think you need to smoke more. Because using propaganda to denounce others is lackluster at best.
Mexico is a lost cause. If they can't save themselves from their own hole they dug, no one can.
As for seeing kids being taken away because of a pot smoking parent...I think there are more to the story than just pot. Stop making some sort of victim and a perfect drug for the ages.
That's why it's obnoxious. ALL THIS TALK about how balance thinking is a good idea while all you can say are the positives to pot and nothing more. It's like a stupid commercial that is on an irrelevant repeat that just drones on and on and THE ONLY people that honesty care are the people that ALREADY AGREE.

I feel the same way about being vegetarian, in fact I recently was called a tree hugger because of my anti-hunting stance.
People kinda just slap the hippie label on us w/o thinking twice.

I mean come on, he was smoking pot. Pot has never hurt one single person in the world if you dont factor in the war on drugs casualties. I bet not even Kellogs can say that about its products.

I cant believe that they are treating Phelps like this. After all the medals that man won in the name of his country, this is how they repay him?
Shame on them...

HE won 8 GOLD medals WTF did Kellog's ever do other than snap crackle pop?
Fuck Kelloggs they don't know how to make anything without wheat/wheat statch or dairy anways.
Meebee some hemp company will endorse him now!
He was too good for Kelloggs turd logs IMO.
Don't they realize it would take a serious case of the munchies for anyone to be able to stomach their sugary nasty fewd?
He is giving Kelloggs the wrong finger in this pic!

He had to know this would happen. Whether or not I agree that it should be legallized, weed IS ILLEGAL and he cannot be used as a role model on kids foods anymore. Now if it's legallized...well that's another day...

Just going along with the status quo and being a good little boy or girl and staying in line doesn't make you a role model. Do you tell your kids to go out and do what everybody else does or thinks you should do, or do you raise them to think for themselves and not follow the crowd. It all depends on how you want to look at it.

The media really has "thrown him under the bus" though. A point about the true nature of a hero / role model needs to be made.

If they wanted to drop him on issues of ethics and morality, they should have canned his ass over the fact that he was with a different woman every night after getting those medals! He bragged about shagging a different girl every time he went out, and basically treated them like toilet paper - that pissed me off more than the pot.
I'd rather have my daughter look up to someone who smokes pot every once in a while than someone who thinks its totally okay to sleep around and treat women like trash.

just sent my message in:
Did you guys really drop Phelps over a little bit of grass?... I personally am going to promote the boycott of your products. This anti-kellogg revolution is not based on your corporate PR reaction to the picture alone, but on the fact that he is a "gr-r-reat"(tm) american athlete, which should not be confused with your "sh-h-hitty"(tm) american company. - 3 years ago

Excellent. Pot smokers really SHOULD take this event and use it to promote our cause. There is NOTHING WRONG with smoking weed, let the truth be known! I'm boycotting AND writing a letter, damn it! (Well, an email at least!)
