Authorities in Colorado said they have located three teens whose mother allegedly violated a court order in a custody battle when she took them from Florida in 1997.

Teller County, Colo., sheriff's Deputy Mikel Baker said the 15-year-old boy and 17-year-old girl were in protective custody after they were found at a Colorado Springs hotel following an investigation into a note left at a Woodland Park bank.

The three children have been on "missing" posters for 12 years. They were identified on the posters as Bjorn Baumgardner, 19; Kaitlyn Baumgardner, now 17; and Brett Baumgardner, now 15.

The three were expected to be reunited with their father, Denny Baumgardner, whose hometown in Florida wasn't available.

    • The bottom line is that it isnt hard for authorities to find someone. There are databases of work history, driving record, and other such identifying circumstances. They do not base their results on specific information, and all one (who has the ability through a liscense) has to do is know their name and birthdate or SS#.....All variations of their names pop up. I remember finding one man, with such a database, when I was doing bail enforcement when he added one letter to his name, even though he was using a different birthday/ss#.

    • [[[ 12 years!!!! Amazing the double standards. When a man abducts his own child, their is a nationwide manhunt for him. No resource is spared to catch a father and then he is sentenced to a massive jail time. ]]]

I'm calling you out on that one, fairness! That is NOT always true, as I am JUST NOW in the process of reunifying with ONE of my 2 sons, gone for TEN years!

I feel for the 3 children, who might not even know, until now, that they have been listed as missing all of these years. They now have some tough choices/decisions to make as, their world has just turned upside down. None of this is fair to them.
Hopefully, Dad will realize how difficult this will be for these kids.
I also realize how tough this will be for Dad....so, a prayer for him, that he listens well to the things that might not even be said, and for him to be able to make wise decisions that are truely based on the kids, instead of decisions made with a vengeful spirit.
(yeah...I know how easy it is to want to hate...but perhaps this is not the time)
