Congressman King says DHS should be watching mosques, not "right-wing extremists"

akamaial
Leftist/Jihadist Alliance Update: the lefties at Think Progress posted this video. They think they have caught Congressman Peter King (R-NY) in a "Gotcha" moment on this one, but not unexpectedly, they play fast and loose with the facts. In their post they quote King thusly:

“[Y]ou could say that 80-85 percent of mosques in this country are controlled by Islamic fundamentalists,” he said in 2004.

The impression one might get from this is that King originated this figure -- pulled it out of his hat, made it up. In reality, he is on very firm ground here, but Think Progress doesn't tell you that. The Naqshbandi Sufi Sheikh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani said this in a State Department Open Forum on January 7, 1999: “The most dangerous thing that is going on now in these mosques, that has been sent upon these mosques around the United States – like churches they were established by different organizations and that is ok – but the problem with our communities is the extremist ideology. Because they are very active they took over the mosques; and we can say that they took over more than 80% of the mosques that have been established in the US. And there are more than 3000 mosques in the US. So it means that the methodology or ideology of extremist has been spread to 80% of the Muslim population, but not all of them agree with it.”

Kabbani based his statement on personal investigation of 114 American mosques, and never retracted his words, despite enormous pressure from American Muslim advocacy groups. In October 2001 the New York Times reported: “Sheik Kabbani said that he stood by his claim in his State Department speech that 80 percent of American mosques had been taken over by extremists, because of the 114 mosques he first visited in the United States, ‘Ninety of them were mostly exposed, and I say exposed, to extreme or radical ideology,’ based on their speeches, books and board members.”

This estimate has been borne out by more recent studies.

And is there any evidence of jihadist plotting in American mosques? Yes. Yes, there is.

(Video thanks to Andrew Bostom.)

    • Uncle, I assume you don't know any of the Southern Baptists who also belong to the KKK. They claim to be good Christians.

Perhaps you are not hypocrit, but there are more than enough to go around. BTW people in that small town protected that killer because they were Christians who did not believe in abortion. You may not be that type of Christian, but there are lots where I live.

    • Hilarious! A christian , you say! Hardly! (regarding the "crazy anti-choice man who murdered a doctor." Sorry, carmalite, Christians do not feel they have the right to play God- so no matter what that crackpot claimed, I can assure you he was no Christian- besides, not one Christian group or organization endorsed his killing of the "doctor". Not one. That killer a Christian? Well, then I'm the Queen of England!

    • Any and all crazy extremists should be watched. Recall the crazy anti-choice man who murdered a doctor? He was a Christian and an extremist. Krar who, thank goodness, was caught by the FBI with enough toxic gas to kill a stadium of people, was a RIGHT WING EXTREMIST. So any dangerous extremist should be watched regardless of ideology. There are crazies on all sides of the political spectrum who often have collected weapons so they have them at their disposal. I am glad the FBI caughe Krar. This one RW nut could have done serious harm.

    • Well, ya know, we gotta keep an eye on those returning BushWar veterans- you know, itchy trigger fingers and all, just lookin' for a fight....military has always been conservative based, and that's enough of a threat to the wackjob leftist communist sympathizers like Napolitano. As I veteran, you had better believe I was offended! Naturally, she also put those who believe in the sanctity of the unborn in the same category. Amazing how the child in the womb could be viewed as a threat to those old dried up hippies. But heaven forbid we should offend the Muslim extremists- gotta treat them with kid gloves. Seems to be that when another terrorist attack happens in the USA, it will be due to the fact that we were too busy fawning over these crackpot Muslim extremists, rather than treating them as the threat to democracy and freedom that they are!

    • according to Napolitano from Homeland Security, we cannot profile the ones that blend in, ie.middle-eastern descent. No problem telling Americans to watch out for our soldiers coming back from foreign campaigns tho....something is VERY WRONG.

She couldn't take care of her own state. So now she's going to cause a state of panic and fear within our own ranks.
Fear the actual soldiers who risked their lives for our freedom? She's off the wall. They better reel her in before she says any other crazy stuff. She's in no way ready for that position.

    • That's it, let's focus on the crazies (every society has them) and ignore the festering cancer of quietly growing deceitful imperialist religious fanatics within our midst who call themselves the "religion of peace" when nothing could be further from the truth.
Because many foolishly deny the reality of this "problem" does not lessen the fact that this issue must not be ignored .. especially so if the freedom and values that we hold dear are to be left intact and not subjected to abuse and subjugated to Shariah Law ~ !

    • Jeez, Don't you guys remember Oklahoma, Jim Jones, Waco, and the unibomber? Or do you think those guys were patriots?

We got PLENTY of crazies to watch right here in our own backyard.

And Our crazies have the advantage that they blend in better!

    • Infiltrating slowly. I've been saying this all along. No body was listening. They are incidious (the extremist muslims).
      Like the Bosnian war.
The muslims aggitated the serbs and the croats and caused them to fight against each other. These peolple were friends, practiced the same religion, inter-married... and then after the islamics lanced the boil they backed away into the shadows. And it started. No one talks about who caused this last war between them. But guess who quietly grew bigger while the world watched the serbs and the croats fight?
How's that saying go? If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck......

    • i dare you to think deeper

the majority of mosques that supposedly would be spreading this extremist ideology were initially started or are continuing to be funded in some part by the saudis. additionally the vast majority of the imams/speakers at these mosques were "certified" in "religious training" in saudi arabia

so now the question for you is: are you willing to divorce yourself from the saudi family and all of that cheap delicious oil? or are you going to indirectly support your own downfall by turning a blind eye to a corrupt monarchy that would soon topple at the will of the people once american and western support would be removed?

those saudis sure have been some great friends over the years. this issue isnt as simple as you would have it

    • For once, I am speechless... I am thinking of a polite word to describe her and the direction this country is taking - undoubtedly under orders of the hijacked commender in chief position - and only curse words come to mind. The words from Hussein's "audacity" come to mind: "I shall stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in and ugly direction"... Need I say more?
