Clark and Redden, who live together, say they are physician-certified to grow and use medical marijuana, yet 21 marijuana plants were seized from their home March 30. Madison Heights Police used a battering ram to knock down their front door.

Oakland County prosecutors charged them with felonies that could land them in prison for up to 14 years.

They are such a threat to society.

Interesting…. The innocent go to jail and our children are treated as criminals for the sake of "safety of the children". Is this the free and democratic society?

I knew people that got fined for recycling their own presciption bottles and using them in there workshops to hold tacks, screws. nails, brads, etc. Because they hadn't completely removed the labels from the containers.
How rediculous.
When my daughter was in school and on a presciption antibiotic I had to drive to school to give her the dosage(s). The school nurses office required individual containers and individual prescriptions for each dose so if she was on an antibiotic for 14 days and in school for two of those four time a day doses thats 28 scripts and 28 bottles. How bizarre!
It was less of a hassle to do it myself, which is what the school system wanted. And to realy make this story maddening is my daughter was old enough and mature enough to give the med to herself, but she would have been suspended!!!!! - 3 years ago

To all the prosecutors who crow about "the letter of the law" as they persecute the ill: I guess that we should also expect that parents and spouses of sick people will be arrested for picking-up prescriptions at the pharmacy for them when they need refills on their meds? I guess that anyone who uses a pill-box in their purse instead of carrying around the full prescription bottles will go to jail as well. I feel safer already! With gutless bullies like you DA's around, the world is once again safe from people seeking palliative care! Seeking quality of life SHOULD continue to be treated as felonious crime. Good job, and I hope you have your explanations ready on judgment day, you holier-than-thou hypocrites.

Why didn't they apply for their cards before growing the weed? They need to get an expert lawyer but it could be cut and dry without those cards!
I know that having a card or permit sounds sooo silly but the local codes etc. are enforceable.
Such a pain to have to do this for medical reasons but law enforcement will continue to badger those who donot follow proceedures! - 3 years ago

good post, sad story. I wonder what would happen if there was a provision in the law that made it possible for persons charged needlessly could personally sue the DA for malicious prosecution every time they brought a case where the accused was a medically prescribed user and the case was based on lazy and/or stupid prosecutor conduct.
We'd see a lot fewer of these cases.

Its good that cases such as these get publicity, they will continue to illicit a compassionate response from people seeing patients being taken to jail.

I hope the media keeps attention focused on this - these people should be granted a great deal of latitude given the circumstances.

More bad news for a couple of people that obviously were hurting no one. If you want to help cut government cost let the victimless crime offenders out of jail or prison. At a huge savings per person of over 30,000 dollars the states could help clean up their budget woes.
