    • As humanists we are saddened and enraged by humanity's shortcomings: in this case, the abject and repugnant assassination of a young woman.

What makes Neda so special are the circumstances of her death. Random and cruel, her execution goes against all basic human instincts and those values our species takes pride in defending.

This collective of artists and musicians is reacting appropriately to this assault and affront to all that is sacred in existence : life, freedom, dignity and respect.

    • To quote Reza Aslan from the Daily Show last night, "Thank you God for President Barack Obama" (http://bit.ly/16Q0we). This is the time to be calm and smart.

And he frames the criticism such as it's not the U.S. condemning a sovereign nation's actions but: "The Iranian people have a universal right to assembly and free speech. If the Iranian government seeks the respect of the international community, it must respect those rights and heed the will of its own people." (see video in the response to previous post)

If the neoconservatives really believe in democracy they should learn that it means the will of a country's own people, not the will of a country on the other side of the world.

    • We need to let the Iranian people know we support their desire for freedom. That does not mean we are to bomb the corrupt government . There are other ways to support those protesters.
I agree with csmout they should and can do it on their own we just need to say we agree.

    • The Iranian people will take care of Iran. They are strong, educated and determined, they will do what needs to be done.
It will take Iran time to remake their nation, but they need to do it on their own.

    • This is interesting because of the magnitude of moronic crap I just heard. You cannot bomb freedom into a country. And anyone who uses a dead girl as an excuse to drop bombs is an evil bastard. The last thing we need is some republican named Thaddeus McCotter from Michigan to suggest to Iran and to President Obama how we should "express our voices."

The Republican's used the excuse of "expressing our voices" to drop bombs before. Not this time. Not in my name.
