War game imagines Obama on the run

Image
Nettle
The year is 2011. President Obama has just outlawed the private ownership of firearms, announced that the Constitution has been dissolved and revealed that the United States is going to be replaced by the North American Union, an amalgamation of the U.S., Canada and Mexico. Revolution breaks out. Your part in this is to help capture Obama and the renegade Cong (former Congressional leaders).

This is the premise of a new online community and game calling itself United States of Earth. The extensive site is almost overwhelming in the sheer amount of information it provides, but centers around a browser-based war game in which a player can train and amass troops with the intention of taking over counties in Virginia. Players can also challenge other United States of Earth users in real videogames on Xbox Live or the PlayStation 3 network in order to win points to be used on the site.

Once logged in, users have access to a series of stories and videos that revolve around the fantasy setting, Stories include: Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck Found Dead in Camp, Barack Obama Retreats to Virginia With Wife, Former V.P. Joe Biden Captured Outside Arlington and The Cong Loses Control, Pelosi Captured!

Obviously setup by a right-wing oriented person or organization, the United States of Earth website domain is registered under contactprivacy.com, a service designed to protect the name of whoever registered the domain. The terms/contact page of the website lists what they call a “virtual office” in Brooklyn, New York.

Also from the terms page:

"We take the Constitution of the United States seriously here and apply many if not most of the freedoms contained within to our own United States of Earth. It is a shame that America itself no longer safeguards its citizens freedom as we enter this next glorious age of collectivism and decay promised daily by those in power, Republicans and Democrats. Will America survive? Only time will tell."

    • Though slightly off-topic, my favorite thing about the game's blog is the article about the White House's alleged comments towards Israel. Beyond the unnecessarily harsh rhetoric and the fact that forming a country in two years sounds highly unlikely and unstable, I like what the article has to say. Unlike everything else on the website. Clearly something has been miscommunicated.

    • meanwhile, in the real world, the entire planet goes to crap, more people starve and are displaced, drought and man-made disasters increase.....
yeah, this game looks like a good time.
technology can be a boon or a bane.
lets guess which way it's headed.

    • Well all I can say about the tragic deaths of Rush Limbaugh and Glen Beck is that they really shouldn't have been visiting this nations beautiful national parks. After the removal of the gun ban camping just hasn't been the same. Sigh, they will be missed.

    • Their opposition is NOT bi-partisan by any stretch of the imagination. The whole story is that things start with Americans "thoroughly disgusted with the socialistic programs" vote out almost all of the Democrats up for election "in favor of liberty-minded Republicans".

Your mission in the game is to defeat the "Enemies of the United States" including: Obama's police force, the former Democratic members of congress and the grassroots supporters of Obama composed of Black Panthers and Islamic Fundamentalists.

So basically Obama and Democratic congressmen are enemies of America and if you're a supporter of Barack Hussein Obama or the oppressive Democrats then you're most likely either a Black Panther or a Muslim.

you fight against other online players... *blinks*... you have to wait for them to respond back after you attack...

its time consuming and borring... and players pick fun names like "the republic of dan" and "hope and change" and "fuck socialism"... and my army "Army of Awesome"

its a pointless game and shouldn't be played purely because its bad.

    • sounds almost like satire of the whole craze... i wanna play it, but the page wont load... :(

      damn you internet!

      edit:
it loaded. its just a stupid risk style game using the USA districts as a map and the false future assumption to set up the premise why everyone is fighting...

its a game, its not even that fun *shrugs* imma go play risk now though... or maybe warhammer 40k... hmmm...

      table top board game ftw.

kool idea, but it hit a cord with the way it was presented, and the silly claims it made.

either way this game sux and just reminds me of all those other shitty browser based games.

    • No.

I am a firm believer that video games can alter mindsets of those that play the game. Games are not just game.

Just like movies were not just movies for the SS when they enlisted teenagers during WWII.

      Music is not just music.

The things may not create or foster such thinking, but they do magnify a small fraction of thought that one might have so much so that it could dominate their thinking.

Ban games or books or movies? No. But I don't think they should be off the hook for causing problems.

I would never play such a game and if someone told me they played said game I would judge them just like I would if they told me they like slasher films or graphic rap or rock or even Christian killing atheist games.

Judging people on what they like is a very smart thing to do. Because someone tells you more when they state what their favorite things are than outright telling you anything.

True and not true. You can't just judge people on what they like to do because in part people present to you what they like to do so you believe they are the type of personality that they show. People are a lot more complex than what they're seemingly into and two people who like say metal might like it for different reasons. It isn't so easy to box someone according to interests, companies have been trying to do it for years and it isn't exactly a precise science. That said I'm sooo jealous that I didn't think of this. Talk about striking while the irons hot. Whoever thought this up and implemented it must be making a mint.

Judgmental is doing what you just did as well....can't say something like that and not be included.

You can get a general idea of what someone is like based on what they like. I never stated that it would be based on a single thing. But it's not like people who all like to Mosh dislike pain. It's kind of a given that they don't mind pain. So to an extent it is possible.
