Do We Want Republicans to Kick our Ass in 2012
Democrats are often known for loosing their passion after a crowning achievement, especially when our achievement can be somewhat tempered by a weakness in the astounding number of accomplishments that have been made. YES, there have been a huge number of issues addressed; but to no one's satisfaction. Nearly all acts have been so diluted or under funded or not funded at all. Even more threats by the GOP to pull back funding on issues. What are we to do?
Why do we put our tails between our legs and heads down turn away from our fight? Why have we started waving a white flag of surrender when we are still in charge. Why are we not using the power that we have, why is our Senate failing us so miserably, why is our President not using his personal and professional power?
Republicans are meeting all across the country to determine strategy, define plans and develop new “buzzwords” to use against Democrats and to promote Republicans. They are fighting to disallow voting rights, they are forcing issues to rise to the top and exploiting the issues in a negative form against the Democrats even though many of the issues could be easily fought back as positives for our causes. We allow them to call us “baby killers” and Constitutionally inoperative (among others). I have decided to read the Constitution at least once a month; each and every time, I fail to see where the Republicans have a higher level of understanding or claim to its basic principles.
Do phone banks work? I don't think they are very effective use of resources.
Does door knocking work? I don't answer my door unless I am expecting someone. Way too much investment of time for little to no pay off.
What do I think works? I think Grassroots efforts that are made of community events. Such as Cinco de Mayo festivities, recent ethnic gatherings, fairs, rodeos, community functions, community newspapers, and so on and so forth. Where are the local representatives for the communities? Why don't we organize street dances, parties where we can all mingle at exchange information? Shouldn't we be in community centers and in neighborhood streets. Can't we find local talent that would donate a couple of hours of prime time entertainment?
Why don't we get together to discuss our platform and our strategy to include and expand our membership? Brainstroming is maybe an obsolete term today but still it works. We have great leaders but we are not using them effectively.
