On February 1 a Federal judge issued an unprecedented order against Walmart contractors for threatening to discharge Daniel and his coworkers in retaliation for their efforts to assert their rights in a federal class action lawsuit. The workers won a federal injunction prohibiting Schneider from going through with the threatened mass firing, which had been scheduled to take effect on February 24.
Even though the court has requested these Walmart contractors not fire workers for standing up for their rights, the struggle will continue to ensure that the workers are not terminated, and to create safe, full-time jobs with benefits and a living wage. We call on Walmart to adopt a Responsible Contractor Policy that guarantees that workers who move Walmart goods have the right to speak up on the job, and stand up for their rights without retaliation.
