The battle between the brain's left and right hemispheres

Why is the brain divided? If it is about making connections, why has evolution so carefully preserved the segregation of its hemispheres?

    • My mom is a court reporter and she's writing a case where a 15 year old stabbed some girl to death. This kid is missing the middle section that connects the right side to the left side of your brain. From what I was told about the case is that he is unable to connect action from consequence because he can't comprehend the outcome before he acts. He's all there but can't put things together so they try and teach him facts to benefit him as opposed to letting him learn things by trial and error.

    • What if you're ambidextrous and bipolar and inherited your thyroid from the matriarchal family tree not suitable for brain health or bodily functions an incompatible organ transplant-equivalent? and had all the childhood viral infections adding into your DNA chickenpox measles and mumps twice because your Immune System didn't function well due to in-the-womb tobacco-alcohol fetal poisoning syndromes? and had infestation by Borelli sprirocheates twice now laying dormant inside just waiting a moment of physical weakness so they can pounce, overwhelm and permeate my blood and body chemistry yet a third time? and in the 8th Grade running full speed tripped and slammed my right side of my head into hard packed dirt set up like poured-&-set concrete?

Which part of my brain is still working? http://www.newpath4.com/1100russianwomensteamingangryatmen.htm#_Weather_Climate_...

    • Enjoyed this beatifully written piece. After returning from a weekend workshop on the brain I will add some of my take-aways.

The brain has many more parts than just the left and the right side. A baby is born with it's reptilian back brain and different parts of the brain develop as the child grows older. Some times different parts of the brain are underdeveloped or not in synchronicity because of trauma which causes the reptilian back brain to take over (fight or flight). The right and left brains tend to deal with social interaction and social intelligence. The center and front parts deal more with development of the self. People may be extremely creative or logical because a specific part of their brain is more developed. Different parts of the brain always seek to be in synchronicity but due to biological or psychological reasons some parts of the brain may be underdeveloped or disconnected. It's just like writing with right hand or the left hand. Once you develop skills on one side that side will likely take control. Except for if you are soccer player Pele or Leonardo da Vinci of course.

    • One side of the brain pretty insistently declares itself superior, and it is the self-interest side. It doesn't matter that hierarchy is a boondoggle waste of time, a lie. The waste is still pursued. So the other aspect to our current left-brain glorification is that sneering downplay of the right. The unchecked left brain becomes a monster.
