Mid Calder Primary School in West Lothian is harnessing the power of street culture by offering P7 boys the opportunity to learn to breakdance.
It is part of a scheme to instill discipline and respect. The more pupils behave in class, the more time they are given on the dancefloor.
Deputy head teacher Catriona Macrae told Sky News it seems to work.
"The scheme has developed their skills, their teamwork, their cooperation and their attitude has improved as well. They're very enthusiastic," she said.
Breakdancing has been thrust back into the mainstream by the movie Street Dance, starring Britain's Got Talent winners Diversity.
In West Lothian, its cool image is proving a magnet for the boys involved. They are also helped by the fact that the classes are boys-only.
John Edmiston, a breakdancer and martial arts instructor who takes the class, said:"West Lothian Council tries to run it for boys so that it's still classed as 'cool'.
"If girls were to start doing it, it might take that away. With the majority being boys, it retains that cool factor. With it being on the ground and requiring a lot more strength, boys generally take to it a bit more than girls anyway - which is not to say that girls can't do it."
The breakdancing initiative is part of a wider programme deployed by the school to improve children's behaviour and to engage them with education.
It is a simple but effective formula: discipline = dance = cool. And the youngsters get it.
