Suffer the Children - Resistance 2 VCAM Submission

This trailer is inspired by videos in the 1950s that taught people how to survive an atomic attack, apparently your best bet is to hole up in the basement. My aim is to experiment with creating a sustained, eerie atmosphere, telling a story in the simplest way possible, and create a piece that fleshes out the invasion scenario, focusing on everyday people just trying to survive and thus giving an actual purpose to resistance.

If you look closely there are details about the people whose basement we are in, I just forgot this was going to be a small Flash video on the website and therefore things are pretty hard to read =) I took a better part of a month's worth of free time to complete, using Cinema 4D, After Effects and Premiere. I hope you guys like it!

- Edited 08/12 : Uploaded the PAL version instead so no more jerkiness, also added sound effects.

    • I love this one, but can you use public domain? I just edited two entries just to read in the producers guide public domain materials are not allowed. what crap is that?!

      They seem to like changing the rules part way through. Like the text "Copyright Sony and all that".

      It's to keep us on our toes. When you do this professionally, the rules do sometimes change and hours of work ends up on the cutting room floor. Goes with the territory.

      No, honestly, I think you have nailed it with this. It's beautifully disturbing, thought provoking and dark!

    • thanks for your comments jason! I got the music from the music library linked to current tv and the video is a public domain speech.

      Yeah I did kinda want to have the idea that the person was becoming more desperate and losing it in the end. The end frame is more of a teaser as to what is actually lying behind the camera and I was hoping that showing just a little of it is enough. But I'm definitely going to think of how to create more impact at the end!

    • Also after watching again, you might want to bring more impact to the end. I'm left looking for more from the final fram. I actually paused it to see if there was something I missed.

    • fantastic. where did you get the audio piece?

      I would lose all but one writings of "help". leave the blood trail coming from that one as if the person wrote it while they were being tagged.

      To that I think it's also just as compelling the way you have it as if the person started writing it and went insane. sorta like the shining....

      great work, i'm sure you are in the running...
