Proof Macs are cheaper than PCs

fmanjoo
Let's put to rest the myth that an Apple computer will set you back more than a Windows PC. In fact, it'll cost you less.

    • An interesting point, and an interesting thread.

Beyond the issue of who sells/buys used machines (I've bought two, but haven't sold one), the other issue is that the MAC may have higher resale value, but I still have to buy another MAC when I sell the current - and I have to juice the new MAC up when I buy used.

Don't get me wrong, I prefer MAC to PC, but I know that I am paying a higher price to get what I want.

    • I dont agree 100%, I would say resell value is great but how many people use that as a reason to buy something better yet a computer. I think Mac's are unique and just all around awesome/innovative computers. MAC's are the best, cheaper or not.
Suggestion: You should do a story on why MAC's are better than PC's!

    • I'm not sure I buy the argument that a Mac is cheaper than a PC because of resell value. However, I do think a Mac is cheaper than a PC when you monetise the amount of time you spend on the phone with support when you have a PC, or the amount of time you spend trying to get a PC to work right. Very little down time on a Mac equals better value and ultimately makes it cheaper.

    • Mr. Manjoo is correct as far as his argument goes, but how many people sell their hardware after a year??? (The salon article's examples used a one year depreciation, even though the video said "2-3 years") For most, I believe, the few hardware purchases we make are much better spent on commodity hardware that can be upgraded periodically and, frankly, gets the job done just fine. Heck, I can't even change the frickin' battery in my iPod :-)
