The Real Girlfriend Experience

It began with an awkward phone call: "Would you like to, um, go bowling with me?"

"Go what?"

"Go... uh... bowling. Would you like to bowl with me? I'll pay for everything, of course."

"You just want to go bowling?" She was incredulous.

"Kind of like a sweet, you know, all-American date," I said, a nervous cramp in my chest.

Silence.

"Yeah, I'll go bowling with you. What time do you want to go?"

So it was set. My first date with a prostitute would be at a bowling alley in west Broward. We could talk about whatever she wanted. Do whatever she felt like doing. As long as it didn't involve anything even close to sex.

    • very interesting article, though I'm not really sure what the research showed apart from that many prostitutes have very real personal lives and often want to just go back to an ordinary job/life. Interesting insight into the psychology though.

    • They may be hookers -- selling false intimacy for dollars. Some might say selling something that is beyond price.

But still, they evoke a strong sense of compassion in me: seeing through a hardened exterior to that real human that is stuck in her role.

I think it is a little like the young girl falling for 'the bad boy' and saying: "My parents just don't see him the way I do"

Not practical: but still the compassion is there.

    • Wow this is a very interesting article, a great read but did the writer ever worry about being prosecuted for the solicitation of prostitutes.
