The Low-down on Steampunk

I also think that the genre is limited in that, so far, it only has stories within the confines of Europe. China, Japan, India, and many of the kingdoms in Africa and South America could all be great settings for the genre. I would love to see a Steampunk story set in medieval Japan. But I digress. Its an interesting genre, but it may be running out of steam, pun intended.
"Steampunk," edited by Ann and Jeff VanderMeer is a collection of stories in the genre. "The book is a thoughtful, exhaustive overview of steampunk that starts with an excerpt from Michael Moorcock’s 1971 novel, The Warlord Of The Air, one of the earliest examples of proto-steampunk." -- A.V. Club

Anyone aware of some good books tying Steampunk with the Cthulhu genre? I've always thought the two would work quite wonderfully together.

If you're interested in steampunk, there's a magazine you might be interested in. I haven't had the opportunity to read the first issue yet, but it has over 100 pages of content for $1.99 a month, so it's a bargain. It's available in PDF or through iTunes.

I enjoyed "Mainspring" by Jay Lake.
( I think the genre appeals in "real life" to "makers",....and people who like to play dress up.) -EVERYTHING LOOKS GOOD IN BRASS!- -and girls are cute in goggles-
p.s. "Steamboy" was a good animated film example, and lots of fun. - 2 years ago
