This list is too much! I love recalling these guys and their cowardly ways.
Mr. Smith's "Oh, the pain..."
Scooby's "Rut-row!"
and
Carter J. Burke "I thought you were smarter than that, Ripley."

    • Hudson had so many cowardly moments. It's hard to pick just one. But this one is pretty good--

Ripley: How long after we're declared overdue can we expect a rescue?
      Hicks: [pause] Seventeen days.
Hudson: Seventeen *days?* Hey man, I don't wanna rain on your parade, but we're not gonna last seventeen *hours!* Those things are gonna come in here just like they did before. And they're gonna come in here...
      Ripley: Hudson!
Hudson: ...and they're gonna come in here AND THEY'RE GONNA GET US!
Ripley: Hudson! This little girl survived longer than that with no weapons and no training.
      [to Newt]
      Ripley: Right?
      [Newt apes a salute]
Hudson: Why don't you put her in charge?
Ripley: You better just start dealing with it, Hudson! Listen to me! Hudson, just deal with it, because we need you and I'm sick of your bullshit.

    • Great list, good addition by remanns below.
And now I'm feeling a little old (I'm not, though) but I think Lee (Robert Vaughn), the famous gunslinger hired by Chris (Yul Brenner) and Vic (Steve McQueen) to join the Magnificent Seven, deserves at least honorable mention.
He was a famed killer, a legendary gunslinger, but when the fight came, he ran.
He came back, of course, but he was the only of the Seven to suffer doubt or fear before the climactic showdown.

      . . .and don't forget;
Monty Python: Brave Sir Robin Ran Away Lyrics

      Bravely bold Sir Robin
      Rode forth from Camelot.
He was not afraid to die,
      Oh brave Sir Robin.
He was not at all afraid
To be killed in nasty ways.
Brave, brave, brave, brave Sir Robin.

He was not in the least bit scared
To be mashed into a pulp.
Or to have his eyes gouged out,
      And his elbows broken.
      To have his kneecaps split
      And his body burned away,
And his limbs all hacked and mangled
      Brave Sir Robin.

      His head smashed in
      And his heart cut out
      And his liver removed
      And his bowls unplugged
      And his nostrils raped
      And his bottom burnt off
      And his pen--

"That's... that's enough music for now lads,
      *** there's dirty work afoot*** ???."

      Brave Sir Robin ran away.
      ("No!")
      Bravely ran away away.
      ("I didn't!")
When danger reared it's ugly head,
He bravely turned his tail and fled.
      ("no!")
Yes, brave Sir Robin turned about
      ("I didn't!")
      And gallantly he chickened out.

****Bravely**** taking ("I never did!") to his feet,
He beat a very brave retreat.
      ("all lies!")
Bravest of the braaaave, Sir Robin!
      ("I never!")
