Shortlist for Current Pitch for Sheffield Doc/Fest '09 announced!

Hello!
Thank you all so much for pitching into this year’s Current Pitch as part of DFG’s Newcomers Day at Sheffield Doc/Fest. We had a huge number of entries and we had a great day reading them all and arguing for our favourites. One thing that really stood out across the board was that many of you are really thinking about the production process as well as the story, which is great particularly when dealing with potential legal issues and difficult access which is at the heart of current affairs film making. We also watched tons of your previous work and we were truly impressed by the quality of your films – you’re a talented bunch so don’t be surprised if we get in touch down the line, even if you weren’t short-listed.
Which brings us nicely to what you’ve all been anxiously awaiting, the final six (ooh, it’s a bit X factor, isn’t it?). These are the names of the six who will be making it to the live pitch on November the 5th at Sheffield Doc/Fest:
Sam Lockyer
Daniel and Jesse Quinones
Saeed Taji Farouky
Orlando von Einsiedel
Glen Milner
Mathew Charles
The six finalists were all chosen because they took great pains to answer the pitch brief – they are all truly investigative films that asked tough questions of the subjects and themes that are either making the news now or will be in the coming months. Another key quality all six finalists shared was that they started their pitches by posing a clearly defined question and then clearly outlined how they were going to answer it. More than just profiles of the people involved these stories, the shortlisted pitches looked at cause and effect, attempted to get both sides of every story and had journalistic standards at their core, so well done!
