This started off really simple but then I started using my sequencer to add organ and before I knew it I had over 50 instrument tracks! Sounds include a female choir, a choir of monks, strings (violins, violas, cellos), old tape strings (mellotron) sitars, dobros, celeste, glockenspiel, dulcimer, and so on and so on. It got crazy as I started adding more and more sonic layers to this track and mixdown was a challenge to say the least. If you listen to this in stereo, you will really hear the separation of the instruments.
Regarding the video, I made two versions of a video for this track. One in color and one in black and white and, since I liked both versions equally as much, I decided to use them both in a split screen mode. As some of you may know, John Lennon wrote this song while in India studying trancendental meditation with the Maharishi. This song was written about Mia Farrow's sister who spent most of the trip inside her tent; unwilling to come out. The other Beatles, as well as Donovan and Mike Love from The Beach Boys (among others), went along on this spiritual journey and, in fact, many of the songs of The Beatles "White Album" where written during this trip. My arrangement of this song has a strong Indian/Middle Eastern influence and when coupled with the India footage and also when one considers the story behind the song, the video as a whole (images and sounds) is seen as a very cohesive statement. I probably won't do anything like this again for a long time simply due to the sheer amount of work and complexity involved in bringing something like this into fruition (I could've mixed this a multitude of different ways).
