Real Recovery Story: LowShred
I'll be starting College this upcoming semester. Hopefully I'll be graduating within the next 2 years (Community College), but depending on how things may turn out, I'll be transferring to a 4 year University. I'm going in for a major in Media and Communications Technology, with a minor in Journalism. Already a rough market, but I'm hoping by the time that I'm done there will be more jobs out there. I live in Michigan and since our Governor offered a 42% tax cut to any productions being filmed here; Hollywood has been taking notice. Everyone here used to be able to go work at one of the Big 3 with nothing more than a High School education and make a pretty good living. Now, everyone's gearing up and taking training courses to be on a production crew for films and television shows. I hope that this doesn't turn out so we're in the situation we're in now (everyone has training for jobs that are leaving), but only time will tell.

Good luck with school! I do think the job situation will be better in general, if not in all fields and locations, by the time you finish. Take every opportunity to gain experience while in school, without jeopardizing your college life. It's also a tough time to be in school, with cutbacks in financial aid and other areas. Our public colleges in California have increasing enrollment and yet budgets are resulting in cutbacks that make it difficult to get classes needed. All in all though, I think I'd rather be starting college than looking for a job right now.
