Cushion the crisis. We've fallen off a cliff, but we're going to put a couple of pillows down. Thanks a pantload.

If it's working, then why am I coming up to my second year of unemployment? It's easy to still be enthusiastic about Obama if you still have a job.

Because new jobs are not on the rise, newly unemployed are decreasing. Unless you prefer a rate of 700,000 per month in job losses, a wee bit more alarming.

It’s at least theoretically possible that maybe – just maybe – our government isn’t as Satanically evil and hopelessly corrupt as our Conservative friends think it is and smart people who do want to do the right thing actually work there?
That might explain why a plan they came up with seems to actually be working?

I don't think the stimulus was the astounding success Obama would like it to be but, it's hard to argue with the numbers.
If he had just sat around with his thumb up his butt like Republicans were screaming for I highly doubt the recession would have slowed down like it did.

Well put. They will always try to play it off as a triumphant success even if it only achieved mediocre gains. But hey it is better than ANYTHING the Republicans have proposed in the last year. Wait... have they actually proposed anything in the first place?

Might have been a hell of a lot more effective if it weren't half GOP-appeasing tax-cuts, which experts say are the least effective of all in generating jobs.

Imagine that, the economy started tanking as soon as Nancy Palosi and her liberal agenda came to be in power.
Oh and why does Obama always say he inherited these problems. Considering he voted on every bill to doom us why he was a freshman senator. If anything he enabled Bush to destory the economy or more likely is directly involved in the collapse.

The fact that you need to lie by blaming Pelosi and not Bush weakens your argument considerably. Can you imagine if Bush had his way and privatized social security prior to the market drop? Let's not try to change history, Bush caused the problems in today's job market and economy.

Give me a break. The economy doesn't turn on a dime like that, you should know that. It's fine if you disagree with the democrats or whatever but at least be truthful. Maybe this was just an oversight but I find the conservatives led by guys like Cheney seem to have a problem telling the truth.

What liberal agenda? We hear this a lot from the right but what the fuck did Pelosi actually DO? As far as I can tell the only think she did that made the right rageshit themselves was advocating for amnesty for illegal immigrants, which never even got close to even being considered in immigration reform.
They were never in power, practically nothing was done from 2007 on. It was all either vetoed or filibustered.

this graph is so horrendous, i can't believe it is being featured so prominently on the my.barackobama.com page. first off, the axis on the left is title "job loss" and lists negative values. negative job loss = jobs gained, which obviously isn't what this graph is trying to show. second, just because less people are losing jobs doesn't mean people are getting jobs. maybe so many people have lost jobs there aren't any jobs left to lose. this graph doesn't show much progress in my opinion. real progress would be more people getting new jobs.

No jobs left to lose? Are you retarded? Unemployment is between 10 and 17% depending on who you believe meaning that at least 83% of people are still employed so there are still many jobs that could be lost.

A little analogy, when your an alcoholic and you destroy your life, after you dry out it takes years to undo what you did. Bush created the biggest domestic mess in the history of the United States and anyone who thinks this can be turned around in a year is in a dreamworld. There are still chances we will douple dip back into recession especessaly if a couple of Europes countries fall into bankrupcy. Or even more so if we don't regulate banking.

Things aren't necessarily getting better. But the rate of them getting worse is improving (lessening). So what I think that amounts to is that people without jobs remain so. People with jobs are losing them less than they were. But then there's the question of people who have given up and are no longer recorded as unemployed because their unemployment ran out. So it's all a big question.
Still, I believe that things are better than they were with Bush, which is what the White House is saying here. The trouble is, that ain't saying damned much.

More people were laid off in January. The figures here are seasonally adjusted. Without the seasonal adjustment the figures for January would look worse than December. Since smaller Christmas sales were anticipated less seasonal employees were hired in October to be let go in January.
That's what service industry jobs will do. What we really need are permanent industrially based jobs in new technology.

B y definition if people are losing jobs at a slower rate than before then things are getting better. Better is relative, if my debt goes from -5,000 to -3,000 I am in a better position even though I am still in debt.
