Penguins captain Sidney Crosby has become the latest celebrity to fall victim to online impersonation, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

A person used Crosby's likeness in a false effort to raise money for a Minnesota park.

The campaign was launched on MySpace and a message sent on Monday asked for help in raising $3,000 for Phelps Park in Minneapolis.

The message also said that in exchange for a donation, Crosby would send a game-used, autographed stick.

According to a Penguins spokesman, the request is completely bogus and that Crosby does not even have a MySpace page.

MySpace has since taken down the page.

    • Thanks, this also will get us to use more scrutiny when approached for "causes."
Of course we should be charitable, but we should also be cautious.
      Thank you.
