As the U.S. economy continued its steep fall into a deeper recession, many major oil companies - in particular Exxon Mobil - enjoyed a steep ascent into record-setting profits.

    • the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

ever since the Reagan administration and the ushering in of neo-con policy this has been the case more so than ever before.

    • This is ridiculous, imagine if this crisis has not happened what would have happen. Possible these companies got paid off by the Middle East and other Importers of Oil? How can you make a 45 billion profit, and when all the world goes to financial hell and come out with this kind of historic profit? So if not for the oil dropping significantly the profits would be 150-200 billion? This is CRAZY, GREEN ENERGY needs to get rid of this corrupt corporations and governmental and political agencies that adhered to these people who are to blame for this financial crises.

And the Rockefellers keep reeling it in!!!!! And the point of this post was?

While thousands are put out of their homes, and out of work daily. The average person out here has to go to a job, and file for Income Tax, just to reep off of the disadvantages of ever having worked in the first place. Not knowing that the Fed, by the way, which the Rockefellers are tied into..Illegally take a portion of our monies ever we get paid. But by the way, the Rockefellers..heyy their oil company Exxon-Mobile just set a record.

    • i would understand maybe even justify, as some on this website have, their obscene profits, if there was any sign of innovative progress in their product line - i.e. a car company like toyota is able to "make more money" as a result of bringing to market an innovative product such as the Prius & hybrid technology
Was the gas that cost twice as much last summer twice as valuable? did cars run twice as better last summer? of course not
exxon doesn't work on improving the link between their product and autos, they spend their time on sustaining their link with the laws that govern product. Don't they still receive a substantial tax break from the gov't?? what could POSSIBLY be the justification for this?

If they don't recieve, then please, somebody tell me, and I will gladly stand corrected

    • Havent they broken their own profit margins several times already? What the fuck is with these companies earning profits higher than the Gross Domestic Product of half the rest of the world.

While the rest of the world is suffering, these damn execs get million dollar bonuses so they can buy their 10th Bentley.

There is nothing wrong with earning A profit, but profits like these imply excessive amounts of greed. Can you imagine if that 42 billion dollars was divided among everyone in the world? Half the world would be able to support themselves for another week just on a few dollars alone.

Corporate greed has broken another record...

Yet nothing is done, does anyone else think something should be done?
