DETROIT — The Pittsburgh Penguins became the first team since the 1971 Montreal Canadiens to win the Stanley Cup on the road in Game 7 when they defeated the Detroit Red Wings 2-1 on Friday night.
GAME REPORT: Penguins 2, Red Wings 1
With star Sidney Crosby unable to play for most of the second and third periods, Maxime Talbot picked up the slack, scoring a pair of goals in the second period to stake the Penguins to a 2-0 lead.
Detroit's Jonathan Ericsson cut the score to 2-1 late in the third period but the Penguins and goalie Marc-Andre Fleury turned aside a late flurry from the home team to preserve the win.
Center Evgeni Malkin assisted on Talbot's first goal and was presented with the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player of the NHL playoffs. Malkin finished with 14 goals and 22 assists in 24 playoff games.
We did it! Poor Hossa doesn't get to dance with Lord Stanley again.
WE LOVE YOU, PENGUINS!

Yeah, a coupla times I thought I was going into cardiac arrest. I tend to get emotional and yell at the screen. I'm a 'loud' guest for football and hockey games but only directed at the game. Otherwise I operate with much decorum!!!!
This definately was a wild season. - 3 years ago

YES WE CAN.....win the Stanley! WE DID IT- KEPT OUR EYES ON THE PRIZE! And yes, in the "Most livable city!" I was on Smithfield Street a few days ago, and was amazed I had forgotten about that one section- with the Smithfield Cafe and that wonderful toy shop! (I'm blockin' on the name!) Looks like I'll have to make a trip to Smithfield Outlet (on Forbes) across from that building they're rehabbing and get some Penguins goodies........Thank You, Jay-sus!!! KEEP SMILING AND TOO BAD ABOUT THEM RED WINGS!! :)

Yeah, the motor city is no more, even with so many trying to buy American. Sorry for all the negative stuff. Things will be better, cities have a way of rebounding. Pittsburgh did, Detroit can, too. Good luck. Thanks for the congratulations. We love our boys.

Congratulations to Pittsburgh, but I wish the outcome was different. As one whose heart will always be in Michigan, it seems to me like the Cosmos has been taking a giant dump on the place recently (e.g., the Lions; GM; Chrysler; Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick). It would have been nice for at least one Hollywood ending. Oh well, there's always next year. And the Tigers aren't doing too shabby.

Ah, a beautiful game. That third period was awful though, Penguins played the entire thing like Detroit was on a power play, which was disappointing, but other than that they played with such ferocity. Grats to them.
I used to be a big Hossa fan, but seeing him jump ship on the Pens and them shove it down his throat is just too damn satisfying.
He's too good to be a journeyman, should have stuck with Pitts.

Yeah, I was holding out for Talbot to get a hat trick. That woulda beeen awesome!
But this was a really intense series, I thought I was having a coronary a coupla times! I'd hafta get up and walk around. I really had some nasty names for Datsyuk and the two redheaded step kids: Zetterberg and Franzen.
All in 'fun'. Hockey and football, love 'em.
