    • The road to overhauling America's health-care system has been rocky at best for President Barack Obama, as political opponents and business interests took their shots. Now, though, it looks as if the concerns are seeping past the Beltway. But Obama wasn't backing down. There's a lot of talk about health care reform, and the industry does need it, especially since so many people that are only after the most basic of care have to get emergency cash loans to cover something as simple as a simple antibiotics script, and a full third of the nation is without health insurance. The lead researcher for the Dartmouth Atlas of Health Care, Elliot Fisher, a practitioner for over 20 years, has pointed out that areas that spend more on health care interestingly spend more on unnecessary procedures, and have higher mortality rates. So why do we need payday cash advances for health care that is worse when more expensive?

    • The worry is that if the current bill is voted down so we can go back to the drawing board, reforming health care may be postponed for another 30 years!

HR 676 and S703, both now in committee, will not only institute single-payer, but will increase primary care givers by paying medical school expenses if they agree to stay in primary care in underserved communities for a period of time.

Call your Representatives and Senators! Co-sponsor or vote FOR HR 676 and S703.

Fortunately, Obama's National HMO system is being fought against by both sides. We should go with either HR676 or go back to the Hillburton ACT. The system in place before Nixon and the HMO system destroyed our healthcare system.

    • We need to educate ourselves or we will lose this opportunity to change the costs of our health care. Here is a pretty good comment left on another article:

      http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2009/07/13/healthcare_explainer/index.html?sou...

A SIMPLE EXPLANATION OF THE POLITICS INVOLVED: The bottom line is this: Which is more important, maximizing CORPORATE PROFITS or maximizing the common good?

If we opt for the common good, we will move towards a government-run system like France has, where every single citizen is covered and health care costs half what it does in the United States. If we choose corporate profit as the ultimate goal, we will leave things just the way they are. If we try to balance the two, we will end up with a public option or co-ops.

Republicans are on the side of the profit-making corporations, liberal Democrats are on the side of the people, and centrist-to-conservative Democrats want to balance the two.

Actually, single-payer is NOT a "GOVERNMENT RUN" system, but it is a single pool of money overseen by the government that will PAY for private care. The SYSTEM itself will be run as it is now -- bills will just go to a much more efficient single coffer of funds. We DO want a regional ombudsman office where patients can go to declare concerns.

      What is single-payer?

Comment: BEWARE of advertisements and propaganda you see on television. All are broadcast by interested parties of both sides. Find out for yourselves. We have met numerous Canadians in our travels (snowbirds), and they would not give up their health care any more than we who are over 65 would give up our Medicare coverage (if we have a choice).

    • Time to get your nuts out, Congress. It isn't the responsibility of the working class to pay for those who refuse to work for their livelihood.

    • As it stands now, unfortunatly, the people who are making the money in this country are paying for the poor to have healthcare. They just go to their county hospital and they get whatever it is they need done. Some get free health care now even if they are here in this country illegally.

Why should everyone not be able to enjoy these benefits? Many people already pay out large sums of money to their insurance company's. Also, should one not be lucky enough to have their insurance through their employer because they are perhaps a small business owner they are paying a huge sum of money to the insurance company's.

People can call Obama whatever socalist name they like, however, its obvious to anyone who does any research that insurance company's are the ones who have the most to lose. So they are not going to be afraid to smear any politican that wants to offer everyone insurance. If we all had a choice in insurance that would really cut into the profit margins of these big corporations.

okay, so someone founded and insurance company and through hard work built it into a large company, now those founders and the workers of the company deserve to be destroyed because we want to implement statism over capitalism? think again.

    • I'm so excited for this bill and I'm hoping it passes. Healthcare as it is now will bankrupt this country within the next decade. By offering public insurance not only will the 45 million uninsured people be covered but the private insurers will have to lower their prices or offer more to compete. Way to go Mr. President!

    • comrade obama at it again, sweet.

everyone gets the healthcare they need, some just dont pay, hence why taxpayers have to pay it.

its okay though, the people who are successful and have a high level of income will pay for it, i mean its fair right? they worked hard and got to the top income brackets so just rob em blind right? poor mother f'ers

    • I don't know about anyone else but I think the doctors should be able to practice medicine without the fear of being sued silly all the time. It is a guaruntee you will be sued as a doctor nowadays. So naturally the HMO's decide what is best for your health instead of the doctor. This is what needs to change. Not your insurer. It's who's calling the shots (doctors are afraid of lawyers and rightfully so). You think govt. plans will pay out anymore than private??? Take a look at Medicare or any other govt. run program. It operates like a turtle trying to fuck a roadrunnner.

    • I feel like beating my head up against a wall. Don't we already have the exact same shit? It's called Medicare and it's a joke. What's different about this again? This is a big circle jerk for all your politicians to spend time cumming in eachothers mouth at your expense.

    • This legislation is historic, whether you agree with it or not, the great debate over American health care is about to reach a climax.

Hopefully we'll get all Democratic Senators to vote for cloture when the final bill is presented, but if not, we're going to have to ram it through the Senate using reconciliation and that won't be pretty.
