Poll: Brown holds lead in Massachusetts Senate race

Ted Kennedy's Senate seat may fall to Republicans after more than fifty years of Democrats holding the seat -- Democratic control of Kennedy's Massachusetts Senate seat dates back to 1953, when the elder John F. Kennedy held the position.

According to the latest Public Policy poll, Republican state senator Scott Brown is up by five points, 51-46 percent. The poll notes that the lead is within the margin of error but reflects other recent polls showing Brown has a slim lead over Democratic state attorney general Martha Coakley.

Brown leads among independents, crucial to a Republican victory in Massachusetts, where registered Democrats hold a 3-1 edge over registered Republicans. The poll notes, however, that "Democratic leaning voters have started to take more interest in the election, a trend that if it continues in the final 36 hours of the campaign could put her over the finish line."

    • It is Ted Kennedys seat! They are being elected to finish out Ted Kennedys Term.

The people weren't expected to fill this seat until 2012, but thanks to the passing of The Lion of Healthcare... Kennedy himself, this bill may be "dead in the water"

    • Brown represents the "change" that people want. . . Honest representation of citizens interests, instead of personal and partisan interests. . . Such a novel idea, huh?

    • It's NOT Teddy Kennedy's Seat, y'all. It belongs to the Voters, to The People, to the Taxpayers. Every time the Media calls it Teddy Kennedy's Seat, a handful of Democrats decide to vote for the Independent or to not show up on Tuesday. The "swimmer" has a seat alright. A seat and a long wait in Purgatory to learn if he's eligible for heaven or not.

It is Ted Kennedy's former seat, y'all. Taking pot shots at the dead is way classy, y'all. Purgatory, heaven and hell are all silly religious superstitions, y'all. Every time some red neck writes "y'all", the Voters, the TaxPayers, and the People are diminished, y'all.

Y'all have a real nice day.

    • Its quite possible the Coakley could lose, however Democrats tend to poll about 3 points lower in very blue states as republicans poll 3 points lower in very red states. In addition, PPP is a questionable poller as its had some serious problems and missed predictions.

Fact is, if Democrats represent about 33% of the voters in Mass (and they do), then they only need a decent turnout and a little less then half the independents.

Also important to note is the fact that Special elections are horribly unpredictable and many of the telephone polls depend on a voters enthusiasm.

PS: Coakley's internal polling, which has shown her behind in past polls is saying she is leading Scott Brown by 2 percentage points.
