ONLINE: the WORLD of WARCRAFT

Team_Oops
Michael and David got into an argument on the phone one day. David told Michael that his playing video games was consuming him. Michael thought he was right and that it would make a good topic for a documentary. They decided the angle should be about the viewers' ability to review the game for themselves with an undertone of addiction. They chose to focus on the new, up and coming video game, WORLD OF WARCRAFT, that their friends had constantly been playing.

    • Thank you to all of you who voted for ONLINE: the WORLD of WARCRAFT in the first contest, placing third. As well as a thank you to those of you who greenlighted this video. The video you see here is actually the original cut, also known as the director's cut, which we first sent to Current TV, back when the were still called INdTV. It was too long as you can see, so it was shortened for time and content. The outcome was the video that was shown in the contest and on Current TV. After David yelled at Michael for playing video game too much, we realized that we had a great idea for a documentary. We followed a group of our friends for about two days and filmed the whole thing. What we got was an inrtoduction into a world far more grand then the world Micahel thought he knew. Originally it was about the player analyzing the game for themself without even realizing that they are pretty much describing their addiction to the game and the genre. But when the video was re-cut the addiction game out a lot more and the review was almost completely lost. But this is in no way ragging on these video gamers, point of fact Michael is an avid video game palyer and watcher, he can't get enough of it. Also the subjects in the video are our friends, and we were just capturing the essence of the video we wanted to show, because they do have lives outside of the game, but they still do play it a lot too. Once again, thank you to all who had some part, big or small, in getting this video on Current TV.

    • I enjoyed the video. I liked the interviews and didn't find the repetition of the questions annoying, because it gave me different perspectives of the gamers to the game. I'd actually like to see more.

The big question I felt was missing was "why". There was a little of that when one guy answered about his character "....as opposed to a skinny kid with a lacrosse stick."

I also felt the whole game trailer on the end was too much. If you need it for filler, maybe you could chop it up and use it through out the film as short breaks. If it wasn't for the trailer I'd green light the film.

    • The guys here are uninteresting DORKS. They think they are unique but actually there are thousands of video game addicts, who play even more than these geeks, although mosts addicts are prepubesent youngsters who just like these guys never see the light of day or a womans breasts either.

Its a decent topic to chronicle, albeit a common one, but this video is weak in keeping me interested in that topic.
      PS>..I love video games

    • Thank you to all of those who have greenlighted this video. I am the co-creator of this video along with my buddy David. First off the video that is shown is the original cut of the video. There was a shorter version that was submitted into the 1st contest Current TV had, and that is the one that recieved 3rd place. This one is a little scattered but it is not supposed to be a video game review, even though the beginning says "CHAPTER 1: CITIZEN REVIEWER". It is supposed to be about the addiction of this one game on these four players and that is it. The shorter version hits that point better and faster. I agree that five minutes is small amount of time to describe the amazing world that WORLD OF WARCRAFT(the game not the video) has to offer. It would require two hours to go through everything this game could do. Now those of you who play the game and think this is a video that bashes WORLD OF WARCRAFT you are mistaken, this is a loveletter for me about my own video game addiction even though I remain behind the camera throughout the movie. I love WORLD OF WARCRAFT and I have awlays had a strong emotional bond with the entire GTA games (even the original). But let me say that I am in no way a violent person and I think the idea that people who play video games like these (GTA, WOW, etc) are violent is ridiculous. I am getting off track here, anyways please keep sending the comments (good or bad) because I love to read them.

This is for CURRENT TV: I would prefer to see the five minute version up in the studio rather then this one. Can that please be changed.

    • This has nothing to do about for the viewers like it states... where is game info? Where is the game details? Yes, I would have to agree that WoW is addictive and great fun, and can consume you... but if that yet again is another angle... where is it?

The point definitely needs to go into reasons why the time is spent on this game instead of doing other things. What makes the game so intriguing to lose sleep over?

I just think this pod has scattered thoughts and needs more form. But yes WoW is a great game.

    • I know a lot of people like these guys.
I think the video might be more interesting to the non-gamer viewer if it explained more how warcraft works and
WHY people are so into it... more in-depth answers.
Why is it so addictive... why do these guys prefer a world of make believe rather than reality.
Mix that in with the gaming and I think it would be much more effective.

All in all, I did enjoy it. I look forward to the next installment.

    • Seems like a really lame game, and these guys need some sunlight. They live at the beach and they are stuck inside on a videogame all day. I definitely think that this video defines their addiction quite well.

    • i remember voting for this in the contest, but it was shorter and more to the point. i would prefer to see the original one again. this one is still really cool and nails the addiction, but it runs a little long and is a little repetetive. all and all i really like this whole concept amd the film.

    • Having every single person answer each question becomes way too repetitive and lacks focus - if this is for the gaming viewers, I think many of them already know about the effects of gaming. If it's for the general audience, there's very little details in terms of gameplay and other info about the game.

This is nitpicking, but these people interviewed are pretty light-weight in terms of addiction; better material probably would've been gained from those who put hours and hours into their guild, trying to be the first at everything and the best.

Also, putting the entire intro cinematic at the end of the video is a waste of time.

    • this game is so addicting..
I lost like 2 months of my life playing this thing when i was in between jobs.

I think this doc. does a good job of telling how addictive that this game can be.
