    • I am not sure what to think now. My first thought was to use my public voice against pornography. But then I thought, how would her parents get money for medicine?

    • Since I discovered Current, I've been watching a sh*tload of pods, and I can honestly say this is the best one I've seen so far. I think your approach to this subject was dead on and I'm eager to see more of your work.

    • I loved this pod. Especially the "music" that sounded like scissors? It was just different...it showed a very different perspective...it was great....

    • Somebody said they got the idea of how it really works on those sites... but it's not the sites, rather it is studios which sign up to those sites.

I'm coming from the point of view of someone who actually works for one of those sites (LiveCamNetwork.com - don't worry it's not porn... not safe for work but not too naughty either), and the studio we run is really wonderful - clean, private, decorated - and the performers from our studios get $12 plus .75 cents to $1.50 per minute per user in their private chat rooms...

We treat the chat hostesses with respect, and they in turn treat their chat customers with respect; if that isn't reciprocated, she is free to boot disrespectful chatroom guests.

I liked "Current Gigs" though - it effectively combined the idioms of different mediums for a nice dramatic punch. Well done.

And wow Jamie I certainly hope you climb out of that situation or if you're even able to save up the money (which I doubt) become independant rather than work for that lousy studio - then you could keep the money you produce.

    • Wow. This was amazing. I had no idea where this was going. 5 American dollars? Shocking. I did not know much about this issue, but now I want to know more. If your goal was to make people aware of an issue, you have succeeded. Thanks for putting this up.

Great editing. Very effective with the music and the computer images.

I would give this a greenlight, but it's already on air so congratulations!

Look forward to seeing more of your work.

    • it is on air. fyi. we are working on a better way to show what is on TV already -- will launch soon.

and david, hehe... have you seen this. Apparently you are too professional to qualify for VCC, but I for one am glad to have your voice instead of the major media conglomerates that run most of American television.

    • Reality is what you are putting into question. I don't doubt your personal experience, but my research in this convinced me that her story is true. You make presumptions that you assert as fact in your mind yet are not true based on my findings.

One of the reasons Current has a chance to succeed is that they are open to multiple points of view. The community standards of this site revolve around respectful communication. You have a point of view. I have a point of view. I deleted the posts not because of your POV, but rather because they were derogatory and argumentative, which are not ways to maintain a constructive conversation. I left the one message above to show others the tone of your writing.

Rather than go point-by-point here, I am going to post your statement in the discussion area I set up on this site. Please join. Let's discuss your firsthand Romanian experience, and if you are open to hearing from me, we can then have a conversation, not a shouting match. Shouting matches belong on FOX News. By being here, we're doing better.

Perhaps we can both learn from each other.

    • Dazzling work in every respect. To have such style and important content both is truly impressive Thank you.

Personally I see nothing inheritently wrong with sex work per se as long as it is minus the exploitation. I wonder then if there are those in this particular sex trade industry that would continue if they took control of the sites themselves and thus increased their earnings?

Maybe the nature of the animal is beyond redemption in any form, I dunno. Still I have heard so many convincing words of debate from empowered sex trade workers to the contrary.

I look forward to your next contribution.

not think how much really gets to me from 1,99
      besides
      most of people want free
when someone enters , enters for 4-7$ max
rarelly u get a good client
      that spends 10-20$ on u
and from 20$ of course i get a lil too
      but from 5$....

    • Ozzy you sit there and say there is other ways to make money, Well you are right there is alot of other ways to make money.....But to have a other ways to make money but you have to have a place to live. Most of the girls who work on these chat rooms come from small towns all around Romania cz the town where thier parents live in is so small there is no work there for them.So they come to Bucharest to find jobs, the ones that do have other jobs is ethier living with thier boyfriend or living with other friends....But for the girls who come there alone and with nothing they have no other choice than to do what they have to do to survive and hope that someday they can have another job and a place of there own.........Oh and if you think that these girls that work in "these studios" love what there doing well then you are wrong......

oh and by the way how do you know it cost $20 just to go look at them?

    • Anyone else think this is fake? :)
1USD a day, no person can live off that and support their parents. The thing is 20bucks just to look at, and if 100 people are "Faking Sex" alongside with her, thats 2000 dollars.

    • I am here to say thank you for doing this video, I know jamie and she is a really great person but you said she does this on her own freewill? how is it freewill when she as no other choice. where she works at his also her home and jobs there are rare and they do not pay enough to even survive there, Why do you think you see so many girls and also guys work on these sites? cz it gives them a roof over there head. Like I said thank you for doing this but lets not forget to thank Jamie she is taking the biggest risk of all if her boss or the site she works at find out.....

Thank You Jamie!! For letting dlbdlb tell your story to the world
maybe just maybe it will help you...

    • I want to point out that Jamie does this work on her own free will, as I imagine that most in this field do. Viewers should not infer that I am portraying involuntary servitude or what is more commonly called "sex slavery".

I think the essence of the piece was best stated by April, a few comments above:

No one can ask hungry people to be choosy when trying to survive.

    • I had never thought about that type of work before. It is something very serious and it should be helped and you have really helped to point it out and show people how bad it really is on the other side of the computer.

    • Sorry to sound like a parrot, but I had no idea either... though now it makes sense. I hope Jamie finds a better situation. But sex or sexuality as a job has always been around and will continue to be around regardless of the technology. No one can ask hungry people to be choosy when trying to survive. The real issue is poverty. Win the war on poverty and you win Jamie's battle.

Question: how come I can't find this piece when I type the title into the "search" box?

    • I can vouch that the woman who is the subject of the film is the woman who wrote those last two messages. I'm glad she's here. I intended for this short film build awareness, and through that, hopefully help Jamie, and people like her, live a more humane life. To that end, I'm going to start a discussion group on this site to talk about ways people can help people like Jamie, from halfway around the globe. The group is called ... My Name is Jamie: How to Help ... those that want to do something brainstorm and take action. I particularly encourage Jamie herself take part in that discussion. Thanks.

    • Good work. The message is clear, although it might have been valuable to add how she gets into this and whether she is part of an organisation. Where does she get the equipment from and keep the broadband up, etc. if it pays so little. Would it not be quite easy to to something else? Is she under duress. Etc. You get the idea.

But great and valuable work nevertheless. I hope it get's shown to enough of the right people.

    • Gret work, David! It's amazing how alive and well the sex slave trade is in cyberspace. It's very sad to see happening in this age of women's lib. Anyone who views this kind of porn should be ashamed. If they are still turned on after seeing your piece then they have major problems.
