Excellent POD!!! Glad it will be on TV. We need to preserve our reefs for generations to come. Great Editing, and loved the VO. Would have GL, but will be on TV. We have similar interests, and hopefully together we can protect our oceans...
Check out my Pod: Adventures in Diving with D.J. Csaszar. Just look for the Tiger Shark. I Could use all the help possible to educate and inform the public. Great Job

Another effect of the war in Iraq is that the health of the oceans is put on the back burner, and this is insane. Do you think coral reef death and other global warming-related problems would be addressed if the 2000 selection had worked out differently?
Wow. Interesting footage, tight editing, and to-the-point narration. Thanks for this effective piece.

This has been a great experience and wish to thank everybody who watched our pod and gave us feedback. It is good to know that Canary is Dead will now be on air as it is so important for people to know what happened at the Phoenix Islands with global warming and reefs. Our work out at sea will continue with Studio of the Sea and we will be producing more pods in the future - check us out at: www.pcrf.org!

Very well done - congratulations. Excellent scary entertainment, but for
any sociological impact needs more science explanation of the identified cause to boost believability factor. How hot, how long, temperature tolerance range of corals, meterologic explanations, current changes, even 60 seconds of hard data could dramatically boost impact. A great adjunct to "inconvenient truth". Narration exceptionally good, my compliments! - 5 years ago

Beautiful and professionally made. Greenlight this must get on air.
And if you'd like a crit- it is long in a few areas I feel.
When listing the possible causes for the reef's condition, that section gets on a bit, you could trim some of it.Also there is no score/music at this point, which makes it seem abit longer.
and my lst two cents is on the information expressed, i wouldnt take anything away but have you considered incorporating some on screen *simple* graphics to illustrate the stats and figures being discussed? maybe just text?
The infor is a bit heady and by that point in the piece I think the viewer may be more focused on the beautiful imagery than what is being said.

You people are just plain wrong. George Bush is our president and he says we should all drive the biggest SUVs we can afford. Beside the 400 billion, most of it which goes to CEOs of weapons manufactures, the US tax payers(suckers) must pay to help Isreal kill as many Palastiniansas possible. Why are you scaring people with this global warming crap when we can be helping the most greedy, noe-con, Nazi like money God, mizers get richer. You, You, are almost as pathetic as Humas, the democratically elected leaders of the Palistinians. Why are you so worried about the Planet? The second in command, Vice President, DICK, wadd, Cheney has a plan to rule the world! GOD is money, any consern about the planet comes in a distant thrid behind worship the GOD MONEY and of the most holy presidential administration in history of man(kind?).
To hell with this second rate planet! Worship only the U.S. Fehrer!
Sieg Heil, Seig Heil, SEIG HEIL!Sarcazm of course.
I'm with you all the way. The sooner we get the Neo-con Nazi, lying, fasle profit anti Christs out of the White House, the more chance we have for mankind to live up tp our true potential. Through sustainibility and responsibility we (our species) can live on this planet for more than a million years. In that amount of time we can grow spiritually and intelligently to the point of becoming eternal.
I love you, peace, gooday and a green light,

I'm so distraught to see the devastating effects that global warming has had on our environment...
Just a figure that I heard from a park ranger while I was in St. John snorkelling: At the current rate of devastation, in 10 years 40% of all the reefs worldwide will be gone. In 40 years, it will be gone COMPLETELY.
I find some relief to see that this issue has garnered more attention and support, "An Inconvenient Truth" being a great example.
I hope that we will learn as global citizens to reduce and minimize our impact on Earth.
Inspiring pod. I'll stay tuned.

Certainly this is ready to go as-is, but for what it's worth I think you could do us all a service by tightening up your argument and elaborating some of the more important (and actionable) points. Right now a big chunk of the timeline is devoted to all the factors that _haven't_ killed the reef, with less than a minute spent linking it to global warming. How did that "hot spot" appear? Why is it over Canary instead of, say, the Great Barrier reef or the lake in Florida where my grand-dad docks his motorboat? Streamlined and made a bit more deliberate, this could be an amazingly powerful call to action. At the moment, it's a very compelling list of statistics.

We stand at the brink of a time with amazing potential for a global environmental movement. But how can we act? When will we realize the stakes? How can we get past the beautiful images and wake up? Pieces like this and An Inconvenient Truth bring people together in spirit but how can we come together in action? Asking for donations isn't enough but certainly a start. GREENLIGHT

Its a bit long, but besides that, the piece is really strong. I'd cut it down, which is hard to do when the content is really good, maybe condense the part about what destroys reefs, if possible. But very important to address the decimation of such a beautiful landscape.
Very sad and more people should know about what is happening to the precious reefs. - 5 years ago

I'm greenlighting this, because I can't deny the power of the imagery and the impact of the writing and editing. But there a few things I'd personally like to see changed:
The reference to "The PCRF" that occurs about midpoint through should be changed to the full organization name -- enough time has passed in the piece that another citation would help.
I'm not sure how Current handles these things, but the way I see it, the point here is to inform, not to fundraise. The "Support the PCRF" statement at the end pushes the piece into the latter category, and robs if of some of its potency. That doesn't mean you can't put contact info immediately after the fadeout as your first closing credit, but find some other, compelling final statement for your V.O. that would inspire me to reach out to the organization on my own.
But strong piece otherwise, exposing yet another reason why worldwide attention must be paid to the environment.

I am very close to tears. Wow. After diving in the caribbean I feel so connected to the coral reefs. This is absolutely devistating and yet inspires me to want to DO something. I have seen the death of reefs in Thailand and Honduras and it makes me so sick to my stomach. Thank you thank you thank you for putting this out there! It is a well thought out piece with a good balance of graphics, underwater footage and voiceover.

I very clearly remembered reading the National Geographic article about the Phoenix Islands and how I felt so awe struck that such a unique and unparralled coral paradise existed . The imagery was stunning and these islands were heralded as one of the last remaining coral reef wilderness on the planet. David Obura, vice president for global marine programs at the New England Aquarium, had excitedly cited it as one of "Earth's last pockets of primal ocean, those underwater havens that have remained unspoiled as long as the ocean can remember."
The dramatic story of the demise of the worlds oceans is very well summed up by this excellent documentary piece. Its beautifully shot , edited and narrated. A wonderful film and a very noble cause.

this video presentation of the global warming problem is wonderfully produced and easy to follow. The narrator's voice is one of those I could listen to for hours. The filming is captivating.
