    • This pod really gets the point across.I wish I could have shown this to my friend before he spent 2,000
dollers on a stupid pure bred dog. That really ticked me off.

    • Glad this pod made it on air. This should be shown to anyone wanting to buy a pet for the first time.

It's embedded on my Animal Rights page at:

    • I've never had a pod move me to tears before. This one did. Both of my pet cats are rescues, one was found in a box on a loading dock (1996), the other showed up emaciated in my backyard covered with 60+ ticks when I moved to Flemington, NJ (2001). I hope people see this pod and realize pet ownership is a lifetime comittment to that animal, and responsible pet ownership is hallmark to that animal living a healthy, productive and happy life. I wish I could take every animal in this pod home with me, but we are just one family. Adopt pets and support no-kill shelters in your town. After I saw this pod I donated $50 through paypal to to Pet Finder A no-kill shelter website listed by state. -zen

    • I don't understand why people need to keep cats and dogs as pets. Can you image yourself being kept in a cage outside of the house or in the basement? I can't image it. However, people all over especially in the US, keeps cats and dogs as pets becasue they believe that they are doing these animals a favor. I think that we should protect animals of all kind and types, not cage them in our house. Animals are not for pets. They belong in the wild, free to roam the earth as they please.

    • Good job dakev, Sir. When is this going to be on TV? I volunteer with an animal rescue group and I have been inside those refrigerated rooms where they keep the dead dogs in black garbage bags. "I feel hurt" That's exactly how it feels to be in one of those rooms, and when I think about pet stores and backyard breeders selling dogs when so many good dogs are wasting away in kennels and shelters.

    • I think this is one of the most important pods Ive seen to date. Definitely a Greenlight and if this doesn't touch your heart.......you don't have one. This is a tragic horrible situation that needs to be solved and the only people that can do this is people who choose to be responsible pet owners. Please, this is a lifetime commitment. Don't ever let this happen to your pet........please!

    • Everyone should see this at least once. To bad it can't be shown on regular(over the air) TV as a public service announcement. If pet owners only saw this once, I'm sure they would never forget it, and would surely put ID collars on their pets.

    • Very well done. Great set ups for your shots. If I had to give criticism, it could only be that the kittens playing in the background of her interview made for a little bit of a busy background and might have taken away from the emotional impact of her interview when she started to get choked up. Overall, everything worked for me. Nice job and good topic.

    • There was a whole lot more this woman said then I was able to show.

To answer your question, each animal is scanned upon arrival to the facility, and scanned once again right before they are euthanized.

She said that, but as I said, I wasn’t able to include it due to time.

      Thank you for the comment.

    • As much as it hurt to watch, thank you.. This is def. something that needs more exposure. On a related note, I would be interested in knowing: are these pets checked for microchips or tatoo IDs? My dog has a microchip from AVID, but I recently heard that due to all the diff. chip makers out there, not all scanners can read all chips.. I wonder how many are euthanized b/c a shelter doesn't have the equipment to check for all microchips (or b/c the companies simply haven't done the right thing & banded together to make something more compatible across the board so that more families don't lose these special 4-legged members).

    • wow. I am still shivering. what an incredibly well done pod. compelling, compassionate, well-shot and well-executed. This is a good example of how an important story supercedes the need for bells and whistles.

      thank you for making this.

    • Wow...an incredibly powerfull pod. It woke me up to a really unknown, and very sad dark side that comes from irresponsible pet owners. It had me in tears as I looked over to my dog.

    • My heart is broken, my eyes are in tears. Very powerful pod. This needs to go on TV. Great job. I can't believe so many animals are euthanized on a yearly basis.

    • Everybody in America should see this, especially animal owners. We need stories like this to rattle the cages of complacent, irresponsible folks nationwide, to inspire them to more responsible behavior concerning their pets. Excellent job!

This is the kinda "reality TV" that we need to see.
I appreciated the woman showing emotion, bringing out the tragedy, and admire her for doing this hard work! I felt similar to the viewer above who commented about the last reminder at the end. It's so powerful that the repetition to spray and neuter actually takes away from the power for me. But at the same time I was in a state of shock at the end, so moved by what I had just witnessed. It's great you are bringing it out in the open! You might want to invite your viewers to share the info and film with others to help with the problem. Thanks again to all involved.

    • I agree with Redbone, skip the greenlights and put this on TV. This is by far one of the best pods I have seen. Flawless. Thank you so much for making this.

While I was watching this my father walked in my room and started talking to me. He immediately got quiet and his attention was drawn to the computer. At the end of the pod, he was nearly in tears.

      Great great great job.

    • Great work. Reminds me of a doc I saw by Penny Jar Pictures about cats in central California. This is a topic more people should learn about. I love how open the woman you interviewed was with you. GL all the way.

    • Thanks for the comments.

I came up with the idea for this story after adopting a dog from a no-kill shelter. As I was signing the paperwork I was told my dog had originally been at the humane society and was up to be put to sleep. The staff decided however, that this dog was too well-tempered and behaved to be put down, when they transferred him to the no-kill shelter.

As my love for Shadrack grew, I began to wonder what would have happened. I wondered how many animals met this fate. I made a few phone calls, and felt there was a story screaming to be told.

I had to request special permission from the city, and promise I would not identify the facility, the city, or the woman I interviewed. Further, the city would have the final say before I could publish the story. As it turned out, the city loved the story, as did the woman I interviewed.

We can make this problem go away by simply being responsible with our pets. It's that simple.

    • This is one of those pods that grabs you right in the chest. I can't see how it wouldn't get on the fast track to TV.

I'm not sure you even need the titles at the end, though. The woman says it all in her emotions and in her statements. With that ending it leans a little toward a public service announcement. If that's what you want it to feel like then it still works . . but it is a very strong statement all on it's own without needing to preach.

    • Very sad, very very sad. That was a really beautiful dog. Such a shame we have to resort to that in order to control animal population because of irresopnsible pet owners.
