‘Black Street’ is the self given name of a group of displaced young people living in an area of Sierra Leone’s capital Freetown, notorious for drugs and crime. Many in Black Street used to be child soldiers during the countries civil war and now work as prostitutes, thieves and drug addicts.
However, with the support of a local youth organization called AUCAYD aucayd.org a group of musicians from Black Street (called STREET UNIT) are using music to transform a culture of crime and violence to a culture of creativity.
Filmed and edited by Faolan Jones: junglewirefilm.wordpress.com/
