Wachovia's VCAM is Closed!

Hey VCAM-ers,

I am very excited for this VCAM assignment for two reasons:

1) It will be fun. Wachovia's Way2Save program wants you to show us something worth saving for.

and...

2) It is our first VCAM assignment where we are offering $2500 instead of $1000 if your ad is chosen to air on TV.

To get started, check out the creative brief and the downloadable assets on the assignment page:

http://www.current.com/wachovia

Also, remember that you are able to use the APM music library for VCAMs, if you need some beats.

As always, leave a comment if you have any questions!

Thanks y'all!
david.

EDIT (this is revised thread... for the old thread, go here: http://current.com/items/88914336_wachovia_s_vcam_is_here)

EDIT #2: Alot of VCAM producers are asking why all of the entries have been grayed out. I just want to assure everyone that we are currently screening the submissions before we can post them online. They should be unlocking shortly, so thank you so much for your patience!

EDIT #3 (6/16/08): We've extended the deadline to June 25th to give everyone extra time to cross their t's and dot their i's. Hurrah!

EDIT #4 (6/17/08): In the screening process, we are very particular about how you address the product features of the Way2Save program. So if you do talk about the features, make sure you are stating that it the $1 is being transferred from your Wachovia checking account to your Way2Save high interest savings account.

EDIT #5 (6/20/08): Also, if you mention "check card" anywhere in your ad, please specify that it is a "Wachovia Visa Check Card". Please contact me with any questions!

    • I still haven't heard who and if someone won. This makes me not so motivated or inspired to do anymore Vcams. I wanted to see just what kind of videos current and the bank wanted, for a frame of reference for future attempts.

Not hearing that someone won also makes me feel like the bank and current isn't following up on there end of the deal...

I want to do more Vcams, but not until I see this contest come to an end.

    • What is going on? Could someone please update where Wachovia is on the process of deciding? I sure hope in the wake of the mass firings at Wachovia, the person in charge of this project isn't looking up monster.com right now.

An update is deserving at this point.

    • Hello Danny,
I am writing this to you in assurance that many contributors will be reading it looking for updates. I just want to congratulate all who participated and let them know that even if their “rating” is low or high, the effort was well spent. From some high quality production evidenced, to lower budgeted material fabricated from an idea to an execution—you did it. You spent the energy to conceive, produce, direct and deliver a product that you believed in. If you feel that I am writing this to win favor, you’re mistaken. I feel assured that the decision has already been made. I know the prize money could probably benefit us all, however the feeling of completion and accomplishment of something you conceived and brought to life definitely trumps that. (But if you just thought—“no the money does”—then think back when you submitted this and rethink the excitement you had for others to view it). I wish you all luck and hope you continue your endeavors be unabashed by the outcome, I know I will. This was the first thing I shot and won’t be the last; I hope the same for all of you.

    • Akira & Monticat: I just unlocked a bunch. There is one last batch to screen and your VCAMs are in the mix. The problem with unlocking all of the VCAMs at the same time is that the producers who get their VCAMs in early would have to wait for the later submissions. If that were the case, why would one submit early?

TheCocoon: The spots will be chosen in the next week or two, so please check back!

      Hey Monticat,

The advantage to submitting early is that your submission will be unlocked earlier so that you can start earning votes to push your submission to the top of the pile. But ultimately, the sponsor will pick which submission they want to run with.

    • Hi David, was wondering when the remaining vcams will be unlocked?

Would Current ever consider unlocking all future vcams at the same time? That would make sense in so many ways.

      Hoping to be unlocked soon,

      Cat

    • Hey David,

I'm wondering how long it normally takes to get the video "looked at?" I submitted 12 days ago, and want to send it out for "votes," but I can't do that until it's up.

I realize submitting early helps get it posted on time...

      Thanks -akira

    • Thanks David for your answers to everything I wanted to know and had been afraid to ask!!!
      Keep up the good work.

Certainly seems like a fair system to me.
I will certainly continue to contribute, and I really appreciate the opportunity.

      Good luck to all !!!

    • Hey thisispaisley,

Wachovia is still screening the submissions and checking to make sure the spots satisfy some legal requirements. Stay tuned! I'll make an announcement when I hear back!

    • All good questions, Monticat! I have some answers:

      1. I would like to know if ALL VCAMs are submitted to the sponsor

All VCAMs are submitted to the sponsors unless a submission doesn't fulfill a requirement. If there is something wrong with your submission, you would have been contacted via email.

      2. If not, what criteria do the staffers at Current use to pick the VCAMS sent to the sponsor.

Answered above, but all VCAMs have to fulfill the requirements before it can be sent to the sponsor.

      3. I wonder if the sponsor ever has the option to review ALL VCAMS-

Sponsors will see all submissions, but again, they won't see if it doesn't fulfill the requirements as stated in the creative brief.

      4. I'm also curious to know if the votes count. How can votes even be considered when the video cannot be seen.

Ultimately, the sponsor picks the VCAMs they want to air on Current. Votes, views and comments helps to surface your VCAM to the top of the pile. It provides us with useful information as to what VCAMs should air on Current. Worried that people are voting before your submission is unlocked? No worries - we're looking at number of positive votes a submissions receives.

      5. Also, I wonder if it is not a conflict of interest if the staffers at Current are eligible to submit VCAMS.

Staffers are not able to submit VCAMs.

      6. If the staffers ARE eligible, I don't see the need
for the viewer submitted VCAMS....because after all, the staffers do have the inside track to the sponsors, and we are totally in the dark-

      See above.

    • I, too, suggest that voting and view count on VCAMs be voided until verification, vis-a-vis vindictive voting on (in)visible videos. Hey, that was pretty good! Seriously, it doesn't seem like it accomplishes anything other than create an opportunity for baseless sniping, and if votes don't matter on VCAMs, then it shouldn't make a difference if voting is turned off until the videos are visible.

I've also noticed a couple of VCAMmers have posted their videos on YouTube already (in both the cases I've seen, their videos weren't visible here yet). I haven't slogged through the legal agreement, but is that kosher? I'm not tattling, I just want to do it myself if I can.

    • Honestly, I think we should be given a clearer description of the whole selection process.
We shouldn't have to be guessing ...

      For example:
      1. I would like to know if ALL VCAMs are submitted to the sponsor-

      2. If not, what criteria do the staffers at Current
use to pick the VCAMS sent to the sponsor-

      3. I wonder if the sponsor ever has the option to review ALL VCAMS-

      4. I'm also curious to know if the votes count-
How can votes even be considered when the video cannot be seen-

      5. Also, I wonder if it is not a conflict of interest if the staffers at Current are eligible to submit VCAMS-

      6. If the staffers ARE eligible, I don't see the need
for the viewer submitted VCAMS....because after all, the staffers do have the inside track to the sponsors, and we are totally in the dark-

If that is the case, I think the 'inhouse' Current VCAM team should have separate assignments.

      Just venting after some martinis.....

      Good night and good luck!

    • I've been on here long enough to know that the votes hardly matter. Sometimes there are clear winners, and other times, you think, they picked that? There is obviously some red-button capers making their rounds, but if you put in a good piece, that's what you'll be judged on. Also, the comments on your vcam matter more since anyone can have all of their friends sign up once just to vote yes.
"This was a perfect commercial...and I think it should win,"... from someone with one bar of activity tells you all you need to know.

    • yeh, any chance votes cast for VCAMs before they are unlocked will be reset? That's kind of a downer to see so much negative response before anyone can even view it. That's like tearing up your dollar before the stripper hits the stage...

    • Hey everyone,

Just a little update! We are screening the submissions and making sure that every submission has the appropriate language used to describe Way2Save's product features. I've already contacted many of you to do some revisions (thank you for being so cooperative!).

I should start to hear something by the end of this week. Our apologies for the delay!

    • Do votes even matter in this? Will the Wachovia people be looking at votes as well as the merits of each video itself?

    • I am about to upload my VCAM...However I am wondering if I properly described the programs features. Could you please check it out and let me know? Or, here is the script:

"Wachovia will match a percentage of the money YOU put away each month, up to $300 just for saving money."

I realize now how it works, but the small print at the end of the VCAM also says its a percentage per year, based on the amount of money in your savings account - up to $300. Please let me know ASAP if this is OK so I don't get stuck not being able to re-shoot!

      Cheers

    • Hey dbarrio,

Can you please specify that it is a Wachovia Visa Check Card, and the $1 gets transferred from your checking to "a high interest" savings account?

      Thanks!

    • Hi David. Regarding edit #4, what if our wording of how the program works does not exactly match that description? In our spot, we state "Whenever I use my Wachovia debit card, a dollar gets transferred from my checkings to my savings." Would this be ok, or would we need to reshoot this?
