"...the authors noted that they only made observations on coastal surface oceans and that more study is needed in deeper ocean regions farther away from land."
So, they cherry-picked areas for their ease of accessibility? Other research shows different results, and far from being the scare story that extremists try to push. Ocean 'acidification' is merely a natural re-balance. An alkaline ocean is more damaging, a trend towards slightly more acidification can be seen as a good thing.
Why not balance your scaremongering article with one like this:
"The four researchers from the Australian Institute of Marine Science report that "coral cover increased in six sub-regions and decreased in seven sub-regions," with some of the changes "being very dynamic and others changing little." But with respect to the entire reef system, they report that "overall regional coral cover was stable (averaging 29% and ranging from 23% to 33% across years) with no net decline between 1995 and 2009." And to emphasize this fact, they forthrightly state that they found "no evidence of consistent, system-wide decline in coral cover since 1995.""
Looks like the decline of corals is not what we're being led to believe by the extremists.

As a scientist I follow the facts and belief matures as the data becomes statistically significant. Thanks for pointing out some that I was not aware of. A physicist friend of mine believes that CO2 saturates in its heat storing effect. I hope he is correct but am worried about methane releases as the polar ice melts.
