Weird Relationships 3 items | updated Aug 20 2009

The Brief:

They’re never simple are they? Whether between family, friends, colleagues, pets and their owners and of course, lovers, relationships are like fingerprints - complex, fascinating and always unique. They can shape us, make us but they can also break us and that’s what this season is all about.

We want to hear your weird and wonderful stories about bizarre relationships, couplings that have gone really wrong or survived the odds, surprising connections, unorthodox therapies, toxic friends, family feuds and allegiances, dysfunctions and disasters or new initiatives to create connections.

Surprising, funny, weird or sad, your stories will tap into the full spectrum of human relationships and they don’t have to be straight-forward short documentaries; if you can think of an interesting way to gather or present your stories, tell us. If you have a story you want to tell but can’t think how, let us know and we’ll put our heads together and see what we can work out.

If we love your pitch we’ll pay you up to £1000 to make your short documentary.

Over one week we’ll devote one night to each of these subjects:

  • Family – e.g. sibling rivalry, divorce, inheritance…
  • Friends – e.g. toxic friends, therapy for friends, childhood friends…
  • Work – e.g. sleeping with your boss, competiveness, working with friends
  • Romance – e.g. breaking up, jealousy, therapy, multiple partners…
  • Animals – e.g. avid collectors of freaky animals, talking to animals, substituting animals for humans…

Pitch deadline: 1st September 2009 | Delivery deadline: 16th September 2009
