If you're going to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Woodstock this August by buying a bit of music history, you'll have lots choices. There have been several new releases of the Woodstock performances this year and there are always the wonderful old stand-by recordings of all the big names and their big hits, but this one--40 Years Various Artists--may be your best investment. This two-cd set separates itself from the other available and still well-worth having material by focusing on what no one else bothered to do: make available for the first time the performances of the little bands, the mini-sets of bands, singers & song-writers who filled in the gaps between the big name performers and major sets. These lesser known performers lend an intimate sound to the album. In addition, the album includes recordings of Woodstock's stage sounds, comments from the performers, interesting announcements and much more. The album has the feel of the festival, and what better way to celebrate Woodstock's 40th anniversary than to really feel like you're there? Currently available at a sale price on Amazon.
