First the fireworks, now this. Does anyone else feel cheated by these opening ceremonies?
Why do the Chinese people seem so image obsessed? Do they have a right to be?

Imaged obsessed? China? Compared to u.s., not so much. It seems that you guys haven't read the magazines of u.s celebrities. Don't tell me the u.s. doesn't criticize what the celebs wear, how much they weigh, or how their hairstyle is. Britney Spears is an example.

See I can do the sarcasm thing too.
I guess what I'm trying to ask is, why is China going to so much trouble to portray this image of perfection to outsiders? Is it an ideology perpetuated by Western culture?
But I suppose given the way Americans act toward foreigners it's obvious we're not overly concerned about our international image...
For the record, I think we'd let the less-than-lovely little girl sing. We'd just dress her up in a napkin so that people wouldn't notice as much.

I totally agree, this is ridiculous!
Putting a pretty person on stage to pretend sing!!! That would NEVER happen in the USA.
I can't stand the way those chinese people rip apart their celebrities based on what they wear or if they gained a pound or two.
I heard in some of their magazines they have articles on who had bad hair or an ugly dress at a movie premiere or awards show.
It drives me crazy how their media is purely based on images of beautiful people that are so photoshopped past perfection that they are not even human anymore.
Those chinese are crazy. So image obsessed!
That would never fly in the states...right?
